Pioneer of Two Counties Dies in Montana
Mrs Carrie Henrietta Whiting pioneer matron of Beaverhead and Madison counties died Monday at her daughter Mrs Frank O Keefe home in Dillon after months of illness. Born in Rome New York December 2 1861 she came to Montana as a child and lived in Madison county most of her life later running a ranch with her husband northwest of Dillon. Funeral services set for 2 pm Wednesday at Brundage chapel with Rev J A Meeke officiating. interment in Mountain View Cemetery.

Earl R. Smith, 465, a Seaverhead valley rancher born July 27 1891 in Dillon, died suddenly after unloading a tractor at the Blacktail creek bridge amid a 2 degree day. He appeared to recover at first but collapsed after seeking shade and drinking ice water. a contributing cause is suspected. Surviving: wife two sons Earl Jr and Bert a daughter Emma, three stepchildren Cecil Theresa and Mildred Smith and his father Edward C. Smith.

Two Butte fishermen Ed Calmon and Victor Bakka were fined fifty dollars after Ranger Schroeder and Assistant Supervisor Flock found a campfire left burning and possession of over two days’ limit of small fish under seven inches. The fish were salted in a small wooden keg in their automobile.
