Dillon Loses Scratch Game to Butte on Weak Calls

A large Dillon crowd joined the team to Butte for a special excursion. The verdict: Dillon was outplayed and outclased, with luck blamed for the late ninth inning loss. La Croix pitched well for Dillon, and Umpire Jones’ controversial calls helped swing the game to Butte who won 4 to 5 after a three-base Merkle hit cleared the bases.

School Teachers Elected for County High School

The executive board elected two new teachers Miss Alice Elizabeth Whitmore from Toledo Ohio to fill the English vacancy and Miss Belle Osbourn from Bozeman to teach domestic science and elocution. Bozeman and Toledo poised stars join a staff that includes Professor Fish Willis and Miss Paxton. School opens September ninth with steady tax levies and no extra eighth grade classes.

Young San of Horse Prairie Seriously Injured

A serious accident at T. B. Craver's ranch on Medicine Lodge creek left Walter K. Brearly of Brearly & Williams with a fractured skull base and brain injury. Dr M A Walker from Dijon attended, and while recovery remains possible, full status is not yet certain. The incident occurred during shearing with Misses Flora Edith and Will Craver present.

Assurance of New Depot Project in Dillon by Short Line

The Short Line keeps alive the Dillon depot plan with plans for a large scale yard overhaul. A consulting engineer visited Dillon this week and General Manager Bancroft notes Dillon yards improvement as the next system project. Over a quarter million dollars will fund yard reorganization, a new freight depot, moved coal sheds, and removal of Montana street warehouses. Construction start is uncertain due to material and labor shortages, but the project is prioritized for the near future.

Beaverhead County Board of Equalization Sets Contracts

The Beaverhead county board met July 15 1907 in regular session. They reduced land valuations to 1906 levels and awarded bridge contracts to Midland Bridge Co and Minneapolis Steel & Machinery Co. The clock contract with Huber Bros for 1683.50 was approved, and various road and license matters were addressed with bids and advisements.

Sheepmen in Dillon Enjoy Banner Wool Year

The Dillon wool market nearly closes with 1.75 million pounds sold and about $850,000 expected to sheepmen. Prices range around 20 to 21 cents with major buyers including J. K. Hample and the Jeremiah Williams company. Numerous local outfits report volumes from 12,000 to 125,000 pounds at varied cents per pound.

Dillon District Court Short August Term Dockets Readied

The summer term of Dillon district court opens in August with a one or two day schedule and no jury. The docket shows many cases dismissed previously and few new matters, including naturalizations for Darius Chaput and Erick Hannen and multiple civil suits over debts water rights and foreclosures.
