Post Office Landscaping Completed Surrounding New Federal Building
A new lawn has been seeded shrubbery and trees planted and other landscaping finished on the grounds around the new federal building. Harry E. Miller local contractor completed the work last Thursday and turned the project over to the government. Forty six evergreen shrubs were planted in front of the building with a hedge of 72 Japanese Barberry shrubs along the curbings on Idaho and Sebree streets. The lawn includes Kentucky blue grass white Dutch clover and red top with 54 Russian Olive shrubs as decorations. An old apple tree remains on the site in good condition as do many trees surrounding the area.

Monte Melton of Dillon recounts the SS President Pierce rescue of the British freighter Sandgate Castle, burning off the eastern North American coast on June 26, 1937, while en route to South Africa with 172 automobiles and cargo. Old Timers Picnic Plans in Wisdom with Indian Braves
Plans for an old-timers picnic in Wisdom on Sunday July 11 are set under the Big Hole Road association. Dillon's retooled nine under Ott Vandegrift earned a 3 2 win over Butte last Thursday night. All Dillon runs came in the fourth inning on three hits, as Lee Klovdahl Roesti and a walk loaded the bases and Vandegrift drove in two. Butte protested a seventh inning ball called dead after it struck a batter, but officials stood by the ruling.

Beaverhead Forest Fire Quelled After 12 Acre Blaze
The Beaverhead National Forest reported its first serious fire of the season in the Wise River district. The 12 acre fire was under control after CCC crews from Birch Creek camp and forest officials worked with a rain to suppress it. About 50 workers assisted, with 25 withdrawn after the rain and 25 remaining to guard against flare ups. Lightning is blamed for multiple fires in the Deer Lodge area, and campers were praised for cautious behavior during the holiday period.

Dillon Youth in Navy Dies from Car Crash Injuries
Louis Gilman of Dillon reports his son Dillon youth Anson Gilman died in a California hospital Sunday from injuries after a car accident Saturday night. He served aboard the U S S Idaho and was a member of the Dillon community, educated in local schools, and had enlisted in the navy from Dillon. The body is being returned for funeral services scheduled for tomorrow.

No Rodents With Bubonic Plague Found in State
Investigators from the United States Public Health Service and the Montana State Board of Health report no rodents infected with bubonic plague in Montana this year.
