Mining Association to Hold 11th Annual Meet in Butte
The Mining Association of Montana will host its 11th annual summer meeting at the Finlen Hotel in Butte on July 30 and 31. Luncheon and banquet reservations go to the Montana Standard Building address. room bookings through C Pat Egan of the Finlen. A garden tea and music are planned at the home of Mr and Mrs William O Kelly, with a Sunday afternoon program. A style show follows the luncheon, and a Monday morning tour around the Butte mines and Greater Butte Project is arranged, courtesy of Anaconda Copper.

Strange Balloon Found on Lockyer Ranch
A large balloon, about 100 feet long and 50 feet in diameter, was found by Floyd Kenison on the Lockyer ranch early Tuesday. A box, a clock, and wiring attached to the balloon sparked curiosity about its origin. Sheriff Paul Temple verified the balloon was experimental equipment launched from White Sands, New Mexico, by General Mills Corp research laboratories.

J W Swetich of Dillon, 32, set a new world record for consecutive parachute jumps with 123 jumps from 2:01 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. He averaged one jump every six minutes in the marathon, completing 107 by noon, then rested. He used 28-foot chutes, aided by a 24-foot auxiliary, a Piper Cub relay, and jeep pickup after each descent.

Downtown Parking Signs Set to Enforce New Limit
Police chief announces new downtown parking ordinance after May council approval. Reeder Idaho Helena and Montana streets and all interior streets fall to two hour limits, with Idaho Street between Sebree and Glendale at 30 minutes and a 50 foot library frontage with no parking. Enforcement runs daily 8 am to 6 pm except Sundays.

Dillon Youths Enter Trout Derby and Butte Parade
Dillon citizens took part in two Butte celebrations this week. Twenty two Dillon youngsters competed in a fish derby on Bell creek with entry limits and catch and release rules. Prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m. at Naranche Stadium. The Dillon City Band and Rodeo Association float joined the Fourth of July parade, led by A H Hartwig and Ralph Harrison. The band and float traveled a 344 mile route, earning applause for the community effort.

Auto Crash Near Divide Injures Several Former Residents
A Ford sedan driven by Glen Lyons somersaulted and tipped on its side six miles north of Divide Sunday injuring several former Beaverhead county residents. Fern Steffes, Marlene Steffes, Iva McNinch, Anne Graham and Lyons were involved. Steffes and her daughter were seriously hurt. Marlene suffered a basal skull fracture and broken shoulder but is not in critical condition.

Girl Scouts Plan Summer Camp at Castle Rock
