Montana Hail Insurance Surges Despite Local Losses
In 1927 the number insured rose nearly 50 percent from 1926 and 1928 insureds were 11 percent higher than 1927, with almost 2000 farmers covered and over 2 million dollars in protection. The 1928 operations under chairman E. K. Bowman were satisfactory, losses overall average but locally severe in Blaine Phillips Sheridan Custer and Powder River counties. Over 200 insured in Richland Cascade and Chouteau. only two claims totaling 225 dollars. Claims filed on 24 July days. most losses paid by early August. Present surplus about 50 thousand dollars, expected to grow to cover future losses. Montana praised for low fraud and fair adjuster practices. total 1928 insured amount over 2,000,000 dollars with 149,847 cost and 141,022 paid. Fourteen hundred eighty-eight acres covered, average insured about 8 dollars?
