Fragmentary lines from the Star Spangled Banner include depictions of dawn, flag, perilous fight, and rockets. The piece references the flag waving over the land of the free and home of the brave with phrases about blessed dawn and the red glare.
The Al G Barnes Circus comes to Dillon as a pre holiday feature. Five ring spectacle will be staged with multiple acts in the city arena Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The Al G Barnes 5 ring Wild Animal Circus arrives in Dillon for two days of shows featuring Tusko the towering elephant, Lotus the hippo, lions tigers and leopards in steel arenas, and a parade of gold showing Alladin and the Parade of Gold. About 1,080 people and 1,200 trained animals perform in a grand tented display with notable acts from Max Sabel Liberty horses to Letourneaus aerial artists.
Lieutenant Governor Frank A. Hazelbaker issues The Land of Shining Mountains a booklet highlighting western Montana. Charles W. Towne authored the text with Frank Ward providing illustrations, featuring Beaverhead county and its role in state history.
A new dance pavilion will open at Ziegler Springs next Saturday night, announced by William Rosenbaum owner of the popular resort. An area orchestra will provide music as the Rosenbaums promote the resort 24 miles north of Dillon off the Twin Bridges road attracting many Dillon visitors.
A Dillon celebration parade will showcase dozens of floats carriages bikes and horses led by the Butte Mines band with entries from Dillon businesses fraternal groups and outside towns Twin Bridges Sheridan and Virginia City. Prizes totaling about 300 will be awarded as drill teams from South Butte and Silver Bow lodges of the Modern Woodmen of America perform.
The schedule lists a sunrise bomb salute, a street concert and parade led by the Butte Mines Band, an afternoon sports program at the Fair Grounds, daylight fireworks air circus and barbecue, a 7 pm band concert at Depot Lawn with a chorus, a 9 pm fireworks display, and a 10 pm free dance at Dillmont Park.
Eaverhead county youngsters rush to secure free A G Barnes circus tickets via The Examiner offer. A half year subscription earns $1.25 tickets for children under 16, with a year’s subs yielding two tickets. Tickets cover admission to the main show and side events. Mail subscriptions from out of town can have tickets forwarded.
Kenworthy was sentenced to three years in state prison by Judge Henry G. Rodgers after pleading guilty in district court to grand larceny. He allegedly stole clothing and other items from the William Rosenbaum ranch home where he and his family had been allowed to stay. Deputy D C Wampler transported him to Deer Lodge. Also, three Dillon men faced charges for an attempted burglary at the Mint pool hall. arraignments set for December 24 and they were released on recognizance.
George Dittman was arraigned in police court last night charged with driving while intoxicated. He was fined 50 dollars by Judge L P Phillips and forbidden to drive within the city for 30 days. Dittman was arrested last Sunday by Chief Charles Nelson and Officer Bob Gordon.
H B Baumberger agent Dan Little section foreman and R Ochiei janitor traveled by special train from this place to Salt Lake City for the Old Timers meeting. The gathering honored Short Line workers with twenty years or more service. Mrs Little accompanied Mr Little on the trip.
The Montana State Normal college football schedule for fall 1929, announced by Coach QO Moe, lists three home games including Armistice Day and a homecoming against State University freshmen. Games span October 12 through November 16 with opponents Intermountain Union College Billings Polytechnic Ricks College University of Idaho southern branch State University freshmen and State School of Mines.
Richard Hummele, a Dewey schoolboy and winner of the Montana Legion state essay contest, will be an honor guest at Beaverhead post for the Fourth of July celebration. He will receive his prize in a ceremony at the fair grounds on the afternoon of the Fourth.
The Montana State Normal College publishes its thirty second annual catalog listing courses requirements admission and graduation standards registration scholarships loans and programs for 1929 30. It also includes official directory sketches of the college expenses and details on agriculture drawing manual arts education English history home economics library economy music penmanship physical education and science.
G L Sewell, formerly with Dillon Wholesale Meat, will open a new meat market in the Yeamian building at Idaho and Center streets. Fixtures are being installed and the shop will feature up to date equipment and a high standard of service.
North Dakota minister Reverend H N Traggitt has returned home after spending several weeks in Valley City North Dakota.
Dillon gears up to accommodate thousands of visitors for a major Fourth of July celebration with extensive arrangements. Local organizers expect large crowds and extended festivities across multiple venues.
A Dillon city celebration envisions twenty hours of free events from sunrise to 2 AM, featuring a community parade, aerial circus, free barbecue, sports, concerts by the Butte Mines band, daylight and night fireworks, a 100-voice chorus, a Dillmont park free dance, and an Al Barnes circus showing with two performances. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend next Thursday’s event and a day earlier circus appearance may draw more out-of-town guests.
Stunts and parachute drops will highlight Dillon's Fourth of July celebration. Fred Woodside says at least six planes will take part, with Frank Haddock of Great Falls performing jumps from speeding planes. Daylight fireworks and smoke screens will dazzle over the fair grounds, piloted by Woodside and Emerson Hughes.
