Big Dillon horse sale to feature famed band and miniature ponies

Hats off to Horse Smith as Dillon hosts a grand horse sale on the 26th with the Boston Montana Band in attendance and a free Opera House concert. A miniature sale includes eight Shetland ponies from J W Kenney, plus numerous mares, geldings, yearlings, and prized Percheron and Arabian stock from multiple local dealers led by Smith and several county breeders.

Dillon Voters to Decide $44000 Bond for New School Building

Dillon to hold a school election next Saturday February 1 to authorize coupon bonds totaling 44000 for a new public school building. Women and non taxpayers may vote. The current facility is crowded with every room in use and some classes held in the library and at the sad college. Citizens urged to participate.

Helena Jan 28 The thirteenth assembly forecasts a busy week in both houses with enactments and two investigations under way. Edwards railroad rate probe resumes hearings with Northern Pacific reps, while Carey Jands reclamation work also begins. House labor hearings on compensation run ten days as eight hour and minimum wage bills surface. The equal suffrage bill passes both houses as lobby activity ramps up. County division proposals and a consolidation education bill are debated amid a flurry of committee actions and potential pay raises. The week also features film showings and local business notes.

Burfiend Purchases City Drug Store in Dillon

Henry Burfiend Jr. becomes proprietor of the City Drug Store, previously run by the late Chas Ballenger. Burfiend, a licensed pharmacist and Bozeman Agricultural College graduate, plans to expand stock to offer a complete line of standard medicines and high grade drugs.

Interscholastic Debate Set For Dillon Next Saturday

Dillon hosts its first interscholastic debate with the home team of Leslie Shobe Eugene Bond and Lawrence Price opposing Gallatin County High School's Llewellyn Lice Lee Park and Don Langsohr. The question is whether the government should own and operate telegraph lines. Judges W W Kemp G F Reynolds and C W Tenny will preside. Admission 86 cents.

Grand Theatre Presents The Last Performance At The Grand

The Grand Theatre in Dillon hosts weekly specials from General Film Company via Patents Company. On January 80 and 81 the Pathe two reel feature The Last Performance screens, telling of Rose Maitland and Count Van Warten and a jealous wife who drugs a horse in The Platform of Death.

Evans Tells Montana Voters He’ll Seek Indian Aid in Congress

Congressman-elect John M. Evans toured Bitter Root and Flathead areas to learn constituent wishes. He plans to be in Washington by February 15 for the extra session after President-elect Wilson’s March 4 inauguration and will press Interior Department for relief on tribal pensions and land issues.

Yeomen to Increase Numbers

A large Yeomen group met at Jos Thompson’s home on N Pacific street to plan a February initiation. District Manager W H Bennetts from Butte announced a February 7 initiation and will confer degree work. A second class is in the works and Thompson hosted a banquet afterward praising Bennetts and the local Yeomen group in Dilton.
