State Assessor Meeting Sets 1908 Livestock Values

About thirty Beaverhead businessmen met at the Dillon courthouse to form the Beaverhead County Fair Association. S. S. Carruthers led the meeting, Dr. W. C. Orr was chairman, and F. A. Hazelbaker secretary. Shares totaling $3,750 were subscribed with $6,000 needed to start. A nine-member board was chosen for three months. Incorporation papers were read and accepted, capital stock set at 10,000 dollars. The site near the coal chutes was selected with a 22 acre lease from local firms.

Copper Queen Dismantled and Machinery Moved
The Copper Queen mine has been dismantled with some equipment moved to the Queen Crescent and other parts stored in town. Copper Queen merchandise sold to Pioneer Mercantile Company amid inquiries. Main machinery moved due to ore handling limits as improvements are planned to reduce costs. A shaft is sunk on the vein and ore removal requires power.

Pioneer Henry J. Sweet Dies After Long Illness in Dillon
Henry J. Sweet a Montana pioneer died at 202 South Montana Street Dillon after ten years invalid. A New York native who came via Utah and Corinne, he freighted to Dillon, later worked for Sebree Ferrin and White, then moved to Butte. He left a widow two daughters Mrs Thurman and Miss Lillie and two sons Harry T. and Guy. Funeral set for 2 pm tomorrow with Rev S C Blackston officiating.

Last Friday the eighth College Musical Faculty recital introduced Misa Ella Scharfenberg who has just arrived from the East to lead the vocal department. She impressed with strong voice, musicianship, and engaging personality, amid an audience from downtown larger than previous college recitals. Her training under Charles W. Clark was evident in every note.

Mrs. Mary A. Bray widow of Conbray and pioneer of Beaverhead county died at her daughter Della Kpan’s home in Butte after pneumonia. Body shipped to Lima for burial beside her husband and daughter Josie Herron. daughter Egan and sister Kate Davidson attend. Bray long resided in Dillon and Montana.

Robert Hay and R H Mitchell of Butte and Bert Lee of Livingston have rented the Deacon building, formerly J Robert Morton, and will open a moving picture theater next Saturday. Bound Over for Trial in Robbery Case
Arthur Phillipe and Tom Byrne stood before Judge Hitachimara on charges of robbing Joe LeClair the night of January 18. LeClair testified he visited Theodore Nelson's place, paid a stable bill with a $30 check, received $24.50 in change, and after various stops at Bruner's cabin and Mrs. Toomey’s, was assaulted by Phillipe and Byrne on Railroad Ave, who allegedly took his money and fled toward the Mellen hotel.
