Future Farmers of America launch pest campaign in Beaverhead

The Beaverhead county high school Future Farmers of America chapter begins a pest campaign running until April 25. Open to all, registration points to Mc Caleb's or chapter members including Charles Greene and others. Prizes for collecting magpies to jackrabbits, excluding gophers and mice due to plague risk.

Albright Reviews AAA Decision At Dillon Rotary Dinner

Dr Robert E B Albright reviewed the supreme court decision on the AAA during the Dillon Rotary Club dinner, outlining the broad effects and the constitutional general welfare clause interpretation. He predicted a neutrality bill with moderate foreign trade limits. The talk covered global and local economic conditions and college enrollment trends.

Farm Loan Association Holds Annual Election

Beaverhead Madison National Farm Loan Association held its annual meeting at F. A. Hazelbaker in Dillon on January 14. Board members elected were Howard B. Mérsé Ernest Orr F. A. Hazelbaker George P. Hughes and Dan Moones. Ernest Orr was chosen president Dan Mooney vice president and Hazelbaker secretary treasurer.

Funeral of Beaverhead Man Friday

The funeral of H. L. Rodman a well known Beaverhead county ranch foreman who died after paralysis in his room at the Metlen hotel last Wednesday afternoon was held Friday afternoon from the Brundage chapel. Dillon lodge No 1554 BPOE led the services with Rev Father F X Lechner of St Rose Catholic church officiating. Interment was at Mountain View cemetery.

First National Bank Names Officers and Directors

The First National bank elected officers at its annual stockholders meeting held Tuesday of last week. Directors named were J. H. Gilbert, G. D. Combes, J. W. Rees, J. A. Sanderson and W. W. Hawkins, with A. H. Gilbert elected chairman.

Beaverhead Men Attend Convention at Bozeman

A Beaverhead delegation led by W G Gilbert attended the Montana Woolgrowers Association convention in Bozeman. Gilbert presided, delivered the address, and was elected a trustee while Harry Snyder became president. The group also included Frank A Hazelbaker J H Gilbert Bert Orr Berg Christiansen Alden Telin Sen George Melton and Rep Joe Metlen.

Growers Form Beaverhead Valley Seed Pea Group

The Beaverhead Valley Seed Pea Growers association was organized with 68 growers at city hall and will join the Intermountain Seed Pea Growers association formed at Missoula. Officers and programs will be set at a late month meeting. D Loosh of Ashton and T R Hebdon of Rigby spoke on the district plan. Maynard Lovell of Dillon was elected to the Intermountain board. Others attending included Walter Featherly and Martin Nedra.

Verna Arthun Heads College Honor Roll Listing

Verna Arthun of Ringling leads the autumn quarter honor roll at Montana State Normal College with Helen Clara Dean of Trident in second and Lawrence Mullaney of Butte third. Plans For President Birthday Event At City Hall

Tickets are selling fast for the annual President birthday ball at the city hall auditorium Thursday night next week January 30. Warren M. Store chairs the committee and announces two Dillon orchestras Dean's and Don's will provide music with an entertainment program and a contribution to infantile paralysis.

Dillon Men Trapped by Snow Slide Near Gardiner

Two Dillon sportsmen Leslie Smith and Pete Westergard were caught in a crushing snow slide while elk hunting near Gardiner. Westergard used snowshoes and quick thinking to avert a tragedy as the slide buried them briefly and released them with injuries. Continued on page 3.

Farmers Union Get Together Meeting Here

Beaverhead county ranchers and families attended a Farmers Union gathering at St Rose hall with Riverside local directing. Speakers included Jardine Rife Dillon Sen Bernard Garrison Midland county Elwyn Metzel Alder Arthur Christensen and Joe Herman Dillon. Entertainment featured Francis Baker Paul Stahl Jr. and others, with chorus, readings, dances, and refreshments served.

Fast Boxing Card Opens At Dart Hall In Dillon

Weston Strasser of Normal college at 163 pounds and Buz Reeler of Birch Creek CCC camp at 160 headline an amateur boxing card to be staged Friday night at Dart's hall under the Dillon Athletic club. Twenty rounds of fast boxing are scheduled. Also scheduled is Jack McLenegan of Butte versus Louie Bell a local favorite in the expected bout. Pete Seaman of Butte 145 faces Francis Gibbons of Dillon 150 in an exhibition bout.
