Mrs Lavina M Phillips wife of Charles H Phillips prominent city businessman died at home Sunday after a year of poor health. A longtime county resident since 1910 she helped establish the Christian Science church and was a social leader. Born July 18 1852 in Gratiot Wisconsin daughter of former U S senator Norman B Richardson she lived in Warren Illinois before moving to Montana. Survived by husband daughter Eugene W Bond grandson Phillips Bond four nieces D B Barbers and Winifred Garver.

Beaverhead Mining Men Meet January 17
A newly organized Beaverhead Mining association will hold its first general meeting Friday January 17 in the county courthouse courtroom. All mining men of the county are urged to attend as the work of the organization begins. The constitution and by laws draft will be submitted for consideration. The group aims to assemble information for Beaverhead county mining districts to hasten future development.

County Board Transfers 6000 to Road Fund
The county board approved moving six thousand dollars from the bridge fund to the road fund at its January meeting. Bonds in the treasurer’s hands were approved except for State Bank of Wisdom. Commissioner Jackson to work with the bank on a new bond needing state examiner approval.
Students Profit From School Projects in 1929
Beaverhead County High School students realized a strong year in 1929 with nine completed projects yielding a total profit of 1295.90. The top profit was 503.22 from a baying contract in the Big Hole basin. Other projects included sheep 261.48 beef cattle 75.30 hogs 321.85 baby beef 64.20 and turkeys 79.856. Williams notes 1930 projects will exceed 1929 in scope and number.

Beaverhead county high school faces its first big test Saturday night against the strong Billie high Purples. Montana State Normal College hosts its Bull dogs in the first meeting with Northern Montana school of Havre, coached by Q O Moe. Jud Brundage's Dillon team beat the Lima All-Stars 34 to 23 at the Normal college gym in a solid display of teamwork.

Great Falls Man Commits Death in Rooming House
A Great Falls man, Charles B. Sharpes, 55, was found dead in a local rooming house with a pistol by his side and a .22 used. Police and acting coroner ruled death a self-inflicted gunshot after Sharpes returned to his room Friday morning and was later found at noon. He had recently arrived from Great Falls and worked as a sheepherder in the county.

Otto Young Dies in Barrett Hospital
Dillon resident Otto Young brother of Cy Young died after New Year illness at Barrett Hospital. Born in Gilmore Ohio 56 years ago he lived in Beaverhead County for 15 years and in Dillon for three. He worked on stock ranches then settled in Dillon with many local friends. Cy Young held a 22 season major league career with 511 wins and later resided in Newcomerstown Ohio. Other relatives include Mia Reed Hibbard of Summerville.

Schools Open Again After Holidays in Beaverhead County
Beaverhead county schools reopened Monday after a two week vacation. Montana State Normal College began winter quarter with about 330 students and expected higher attendance as new arrivals came. Acting President Lee R. Light said registration would be near autumn term levels. Classes were in session and the first quarter assembly was held. Beaverhead county high school and training school also opened, with their first semesters ending later this month.
