Beaverhead steps into a statewide relief effort led by Judge J. C. Smith to raise 2500 for Armenian relief. The campaign runs a week starting Sunday with house to house canvassing and broad support from state and national leaders.
Prohibition prompts remodeling of several saloon buildings for soft drink emporiums and pool halls. Roy Jackson’s Buffet is taken over by Golden Rule store. Rex bar site becomes Royal cafe. Mint saloon sold for a soft drink and pool hall. Western Wholesale opens candy store in Crystal saloon space. Sheriff and police report fewer arrests, suggesting improved business and a postholiday boom for Dillon merchants.
The Wranglers club, formed about two weeks ago by Dillon business men, schedules its second meeting tomorrow at 8 in the Pear I. Smith office. Superintendent Grant E Finch will read a paper on U S relations with Mexico, followed by member discussion. Temporary officers are Frank Eliel president and John Collins secretary.
The winter quarter started Monday at Normal College with about twenty new pupils and four graduates Anna C Mann Mis soula Margaret Mullen Deer Lodge Hanora Keaney Anaconda Agnes Bayne Livingston. Dr Monroe plans extra classes and Saturdays to make up time causing a two week delay. Several colleges plan to credit lost time and the new dormitory is nearly ready though not yet occupied except for a dancing party last Saturday.
Miss Florence Edwards and Mr James Hier, both of Pocatello, were married in Pocatello last Friday January 3. They will reside in Pocatello.

Walter Russell under 21 was arrested Saturday evening at Lima and jailed in the county jail in Dillion. He is charged with taking jewelry worth several hundred dollars from the Walker ranch near Lima where he worked. Sheriff Wyman pursued after the robbery was reported.
A boys and girls meeting will be held at the Baptist church Friday after school. Mrs. F I Blanchard will conduct a gospel program with object lessons songs and features. The meeting is free and all children are invited.
News arrives of J B Shucks death in Kansas City Missouri on Sunday from influenza at his home. He was formerly a resident of Dillon.
Rev W W VanOrsdel of Montana Wesleyan College Helena spoke at the Methodist church in Dillon Sunday morning about the college. He traced his local work since 1873 and noted Beaverhead County fund raising with L H Sweetland for a new dormitory to house 100 girls. without funds the college may close.
Headquarters instruction ends all knitting and asks knitters to return in progress socks and sweaters. Refugee garment project needs volunteers as 150 items remain. Collect surplus yarn at Red Cross rooms and help with production.
Lieut. Bruce Risley, recently of Wisdom, spent days in town on a fifteen day fur lough from Camp Lewis. He sold his drug store business about a year ago to join the service, had been awaiting overseas duty and was near sailing on three occasions but was disappointed each time.
Word reached here that the National Wool growers convention scheduled for Salt Lake City January 18 to 21 has been indefinitely postponed because of the influenza epidemic.

The regular meeting of the board of county commissioners Monday saw O M Best take the oath of office replacing former chairman Theodor Nelson. The board approved bonds, handled county officers, and audited and allowed bills.
Patter son leads a crew at his ice pond near the city cutting this year’s supply. He increases the annual stock and this season all of it is spoken for as his ice houses will be filled. The ice is thick and clear.
Two large touring cars driven by Harry Ettinger Jr and Dan Jewell collided at the Washington Glendale corner Monday. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage but both drivers escaped injury.
William Rees of Denver Colorado and Goldie Price of Pocatello Idaho were married Saturday at 3:00 PM in the M E parsonage by Pastor H G Humphrey. Prof Grant E Finch and Mrs Humphrey witnessed the ceremony.
Frank Livermore was arrested Sunday evening and held at the county jail awaiting officers from Rigby Idaho who seek him on cattle stealing charges.

Ira Sanders of Sanders & LaDue buys Creeklyn stock farm near Whitehall from John B. Wellcome for more than 150000. At a regular Union Rebekah lodge meeting last Thursday officers were installed for the year including Marguerite Cushing as noble grand and Minnie Scully as past noble grand. On Monday evening the Odd Fellows installed officers led by Jack Carney as noble grand and Alf Cashmore as treasurer with several other named posts filled.
Robert Pogue returns to Chicago from a four week stay as the guest of Miss Ruth Weenink in Dillon.
Beaverhead county surpassed its 1918 war savings quota by eighteen thousand dollars. State thrift director Harry W. Turner announced Montana will consolidate Liberty loan and war savings efforts to meet 1919 goals through bonds and stamps. Turner, reappointed for 1919, noted incomplete campaign results as counties and post offices report figures.
The week brings multiple influenza deaths in Dillon area. Names include Witesdfin Brundage LeeaT Arne era and Mrs Tanner with severe illness. Funerals held at Brundage parlors with services by Father Foley and interments at Mountain View cemetery.
