Chapman and Stahl of Dillon completed a survey for Moose Creek Gold Dredge in Silver Bow county about 12 miles northeast of Melrose. The five claims cover 770 acres with accessible timber and water, favorable bedrock, and reports of eight to ten colors of gold, amid talks with a California syndicate and possible in-house financing if the deal fails.

Rancher Hugh Shearer of Papgeville reports a theft of about 185 dollars from a trunk, with 135 dollars missing after an acquaintance named T Evans allegedly loitered at his home. Evans, dark haired and 28 to 30, left by train toward Whitehall and may have navy ties and tattoos. Anaconda Standard.

Death of George Gleed a prominent stockman in Lima

George Gleed a leading Lima cattleman and rancher died in Murray's hospital after an appendicitis operation led to blood poisoning. The Welsh born Idaho resident, about 58, left five children and two large ranches. Funeral held in Lima with I O O F and Latter Day Saint rites. Fire at the Metlen block caused minimal damage. groceries valued around $8 000 were ruined but insured.

Shipment of 1600 Sheep Arrives for Portland Market

J Duff McCandy the Portland sheep buyer arrived in Dillon this week with 1600 ewes and wethers to be shipped to Portland tomorrow. The consignment is part of a 65000 recently purchased from John Lovell. The rest, mixed two and three year olds, are grain and hay fed for shipment within a month. Portland remains a popular market as McCandy has acquired 14500 sheep in the region, with 8000 purchased from Lovell.

New Year's Fire Damage at Olmsted-Stevenson Store

A basement flue fire at the Olmsted-Stevenson company store caused about 3000 dollars in grocery damage last Thursday afternoon. The Dillon volunteer fire department fought dense smoke with water streams. Albert Woodside collapsed in the smoke and was ill for days as crews worked to control the blaze.

Big Hole road project moves from proposal to reality

After a lengthy county session, the Big Hole road linking Ravalli and Beaverhead counties was approved. Clifton Applegate of Spokane will build both road ends for 13 576 dollars. Beaverhead Forest Service contributes 5 600 dollars, Big Hole residents donate 8 500 dollars, with additional funds raised locally. Work to start in spring after surveys by C I Bonner.

Opening of Leggett Postponed by Delayed Work

C A Smith known as Horge returns from Butte where he organized the Leggett hotel bar concession. Plumbing delays push the public opening to a week after the planned special Beaverhead booster train to Butte. Smith remains enthusiastic that the event will occur on the Saturday after his debut, January 24.
