United States District Attorney Morris Fay of the District of Columbia announced the appointment of Raymond E. Baker of Lewistown as assistant U S district attorney in Washington D C. The appointment was approved by Attorney General Tom Clark. Baker, Georgetown Law School graduate, is the son of Judge Edgar J Baker of Lewistown and a Fergus County High School alumnus.

Mr and Mrs Golden Werstgaard returned Friday from Challis Idaho after a week with relatives. Fred Rutledge of Willow Creek near Bozeman and brother Harry visited three days at the Rutledge home. Fay Gransberg and Raymond Gransberg hosted a Sunday gathering. Frank Kambich drove to Missoula to return daughter Margaret to Sacred Heart academy. Mack Poole returned from Monon Idaho where his ill mother was hospitalized after a heart attack. The Reichle and Poppetti families joined New Year dinners and dances at local homes and Nick’s in Melrose.

Soler Return Married Couples Must File Joint Tax
Thomas M. Robinson the Montana district internal revenue collector said couples must file a joint income tax return to use the income splitting provisions. A joint return combines both spouses income exemptions and deductions and is taxed on one half of the combined net income then doubled. A joint return can be filed even if one spouse has no income and must be signed by both spouses.
