Prominent Dillon man J A Baxter dies at Barrett Hospital Sunday morning after brief illness. Baxter was a well known figure in the community and local affairs. He leaves a widow and several children. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family later today.
J Anson Baxter longtime Dillon resident and Montana Auto Supply manager died at Barrett hospital at 7 20 Sunday morning after about a week of illness. He was born September 26 1894 in Sac City Iowa and moved to Dillon with his parents 36 years ago. He attended Beaverhead county high school and Montana State College Bozeman and worked in electrical contracting before serving as deputy clerk.
Mrs Blanche Gordon wife of Frank Gordon a Melrose merchant died Sunday afternoon at Barrett hospital after a brief pneumonia illness. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev J A Meeke officiating. Born July 24 1886 in Benzonia Michigan she had lived in Dillon and Melrose for 24 years and was known to many friends in both communities. She is survived by her husband two children Beverly OBrien Stacy Gordon four grandchildren her mother and a sister in Michigan and another sister in Pennsylvania.
In a parliamentary style debate at the Normal College auditorium Montana State Normal defeated the State School of Mines on the resolution that Congress should override Supreme Court rulings by a two thirds vote. The audience gave 34 to 82 in favor of the Normal College team on the merits, with a personal conviction vote also favoring them.
Beaverhead county enjoys a rebound from record cold snaps with temperatures rising since last Wednesday. Residents monitor thermometers wary of a return to frigid conditions as snow melts in Dillon while heavy storms continue crops and travel in the region. A snow slide ten days ago covered a Gilmore & Pittsburg freight train near the divide tunnel, delaying the Leadore-bound shipment.

McGinley led the Normal with 12 points, Gallant toped Mines with 9, crowd noted as the season’s largest. Allstate selections named Rouse and McGinley from Normal.

The P N G club was entertained Friday evening at the homes of Mrs. Fred Dart and Mrs. Bertha Mayfield by Mrs. Dart, Mrs. Ivy Taylor, and Mrs. Charles Bourquin. Ping pong was the evening’s diversion.
Beaverhead County high school's Beavers edged Whitehall 22-19 in a dramatic District 16 Class B final at Twin Bridges. Jack Cashmore scored the decisive field goal and foul with three seconds left to clinch the title, sending Dillon toward Billings as favorites on the basis of a strong season.
State board of equalization raises livestock valuations for 1936 assessments. Cattle dairy cows 40, stock cows 30, coming 3 year old steers 45, bulls 46, stock yearlings 20, purebreds 76, beef market price. sheep purebreds 12, range bucks 6, yearlings 4.6, six year olds 3.6, all others 2.5.
A major avalanche on a Colorado mountainside near Camp Bird mine killed three and trapped 40 others. Dillon men Rutherford Dunn was buried for hours but later reported in fair condition. Walter S. Jones and Lyeton Dansie escaped injury.
Beaverhead county jury finished a civil term as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp faced John Peterson. The judge excused the February panel after a long trial day from about 4 80 to 9 pm with many out-of-town jurors serving.
Professor Walter Scott of the Montana School of Mines in Butte delivered the weekly Dillon Rotary dinner address on Phases of Vigilante History. He highlighted new points of interest for local readers as the talk emphasized regional vigilance themes.
