Price Killed in Action in Southwest Pacific
John Price, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Price of Dell, was reported killed in action in the Southwest Pacific on Jan 48 while serving in the Field Artillery. Born December 18, 1916, he lived near Dell after Lima schools and Lima High School graduation. Survivors include his parents, two brothers Harold Price of Dell and James Price of Cut Bank, a sister Gertrude Price of Miles City, and many local friends.

Beaverhead county commissioners set plans in session February 1 2 3 1943. A Wisdom airport lease was executed. A 65 Caterpillar tractor was appraised at 275 dollars and offered for public auction March 2 1943. Sodding of football and softball fields at the fair grounds was tentatively approved with conditions.

Dillon Matron Mary Esterwald Dies After Brief Illness
Mary Isabelle Esterwald 64 longtime Dillon resident died Friday at Barrett hospital after a brief illness. Born August 25 1878 in West Weber Utah she moved to Montana about fifteen years ago. Survived by daughter and son-in-law A L Waldemar Grant six brothers two Idaho sisters and four grandchildren. Funeral services held Monday at Brundage chapel with LDS Church in charge. Body shipped to St Anthony Idaho for burial.

Girl Scouts Begin Annual Drive in Dillon Tuesday
Mrs. J A McCollum announces the Girl Scout financial drive opened yesterday in Dillon's business district with a quota of 327 dollars. Most funds stay local with 30 dollars to the Little House fund and 350 dollars already slated for War Bonds to aid future building after the war. Volunteers include Mrs. Howard Morse and others canvassing in the district.

District 16 basketball tournament comes to Dillon
Dillon will host the District 16 tournament March 4 5 6 at the high school gym. Eight teams compete for first. final determined last night when Virginia City defeated Lima on a neutral floor 24 22. Peel of Virginia City led scorers with 17 points and Klusener of Lima had eight. The Beavers face Virginia City Thursday evening.

Rotarians Hear Varied Program
At the Dillon Rotary club meeting Lambert Eliel presented Rush Jordan as a former member and frequent speaker. Professor Jordan spoke of his new work at Ellensburg Washington and his seventeen years with the club and community. He begins history courses next week for students who will be in training with the forces.

Families May Wire Marines in South Pacific Area
OWI invites families of Marines stationed in the South Pacific to send shortwave radio messages for the nightly program Tell It to the Marines. Messages must be 100 to 200 words with chatty home front details and include the Marine’s full name and address, writer’s full name, address and relationship. Only Marines up to captain rank accepted. Idaho and Montana writers should mail to the Denver Regional Office at 717 Kittredge Building, Denver, Colorado.

Boy Scout Book Drive Collects 250 Books Saturday
Miss Mary Innes city librarian reports 250 books were collected by Dillon Boy Scouts during a Saturday drive. The campaign has 400 books total so far with 150 more turned in by Mrs. Fred Hirschey from Jackson. The Victory book campaign closes the first week in March at the Bagley building.

Doris Lyndes twenty of Hamilton died Tuesday while returning from a Hamilton hospital after an appendectomy. She was a Hamilton High School graduate of 1941 and last semester attended Montana State Normal College as a freshman. Surviving are her parents Otis and Megs Lyndes and twin sister Dorothy a nursing student at Great Falls.

Havre Bulldogs swept by Northern Montana Lights in home series
Havre drops all four games this season to a lanky Northern Montana quint. In the final game held in Havre’s gym last week, Earle was held to five points while Anderson led the Lights with 29. Mattingly led Havre with nine in the 52-31 opener. The second game ended 41-38 as Anderson again led with 17 and Smith scored 15 for Havre. Buckmaster added 11 as McMannis fouled out. Officials were Vandegrift and Evans.
