Motorists Must Display 1943 License Tabs and Permits
Highway patrols warn all drivers to display 1943 license tabs and drivers’ permits if vehicles are on highways. Several motorists have already been arrested for not showing tabs. The minimum fine is $10 and arrests for operating without 1943 tabs began yesterday.
Beaverhead matron dies after long illness
Mrs. Patrick Laden a Beaverhead ranch woman died at Barrett hospital after a lingering illness. Born in Ireland in April 1882 she came to the United States as a young woman and lived in the county 33 years. Surviving husband Patrick three sons John and Francis of Dillon Charles in the Hawaiian Islands a daughter-in-law Mrs Francis Laden a sister in Ireland a brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs John Laden a sister-in-law Mrs Rose Heavey and several nieces and nephews. Rosary was said at the ranch home Sunday night. Funeral services were held at St Rose church with Fr F X Lechner assisted by Fr Clifford and Fr Florian. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Madden John Collins J E Kelly Bert McMenomey George Lane and James Melton.

Dillon Matron Mrs Baker Dies At Home In Dillon
Mrs. George E. Baker, 70, a well known Dillon resident for 35 years, died at her South Washington street home after a brief illness Sunday night. Born June 17, 1872 in Chester South Carolina, she trained as a nurse in Chicago and moved to Montana in 1908. She was affiliated with Union Park Congregational church in Chicago and the First Baptist church in Dillon.

High School Students Injured in Car Crash After Dance
Reports say Erwin Marchesseau improved after a collision near Twin Bridges last Saturday. Tom Ross and John Waldemar, Beaverhead county high school students, resting at home in Dillon following the basketball game at Beaverhead county high school and a dance in Laurin.

After three wins last week the Beavers host Park County Rangers Friday at 8 in Dillon. Frank Little, former Beaver star and Livingston coach, returns with his team for the first time. Livingston beat Dillon 41 29 earlier this season in Park County gym before Saturday's scheduled game with Sheridan high school.

Dale Metlen Speaks on Agriculture in War Era at Rotary
Dale Metlen, a Horse Prairie rancher, addressed the Dillon Rotary Club on the general position of agriculture in the war era. He warned that land is shifting from marginal to sub marginal and that tariffs rail rates labor unions and money policy disadvantage farmers. He urged fair Europe trade and kept war pressures in view, noting possible demand for American farm products if Europe is treated justly and kept militarily important. A brief talk on Beaverhead county issues followed with discussion led by O A Bergeson and remarks on German actions in Russia and North Africa.

Explanation of shoe rationing rules and stamps
Shoe rationing became effective February 7. Ration Order No 17 covers most leather and rubber soled footwear while repairs and certain types are exempt. Stamp 17 from War Ration Book One allows one pair of shoes through June 15, with mail orders allowed. Special stamps may be issued for hardships.

Frank Birrer Dies Sunday in Spokane at 69
Frank Birrer 69, a well known carpenter formerly of Dillon, died Sunday in Spokane. Born in Riverside Iowa in 1874, he worked as a builder in Dillon from 1904 to 1913 and also built homes in the valley and Idaho. He later ran a ranch in Twin Bridges and a saw mill near Sheridan before living in Missoula. He was last employed on the Navy base construction.
