Normal Sint Takes Three In Row

Montana State Normal Bulldogs won three straight home games led by a fast passing attack and strong guard play. They defeated Eastern Montana Normal 64 27 and then beat Billings Polytechnic 66 40 and 63 36. Breeden coached squad used many substitutes as depth kept pressure high throughout the games.

Women Members Golf Club Elect Their Officers

Women members of the Dillon Country Club elected officers for the ensuing year at a Friday night meeting in the Dillon Examiner office. Mrs. D A Galt was chosen chairman, and Mrs. H M Brundage, Mrs. Anson Baxter, and Miss Clara Adams were named to the women’s sports committee. A joint meeting with the men’s sports committee will outline season activities.

Four Dillon Boys Take Part Boxing Tournament

Four Dillon youths joined the state A A U boxing event at the K C gym in Butte. Francis Gibbons defeated Steve Krusel in a 127 pound bout, Jack O'Brien lost to Nick Malkovich at 147, Ray Cote stopped Chester Melton in 135, and Harry Ford beat Steve Spotzer by technical knockout. Gibbons reached the finals as Scotty Hutchinson trained the Dillon boxers.

Old Blacktail Resident William Flynn Dies at 74

William Flynn longtime Blacktail resident died last Wednesday night at Warm Springs after a long illness. His body was brought to Dillon and funeral service held Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Requiem High Mass by Rev. Father F. X. Lechner. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery. Survived by brother Thomas and nephews Pat and Hubert Flynn of Dillon.

Dr T A Grigg to Stand Trial in Idaho Court

Dr Thomas A Grigg of Butte Montana lost his bid to block removal to Idaho on an indictment charging conspiracy to deal narcotics. The 38 year physician challenged transfers claiming hardship and denial of speedy trial. Shipments allegedly targeted Idaho Falls and Blackfoot.

Gift for Dillon Public Library Is Announced

The Dillon public library is placed on a waiting list for International Mind Above books funded by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Four adult and four children's books will be sent quarterly, expanding travel and cultural coverage. Announcement will follow when Dillon’s first shipment arrives.

Birch Creek P T A hosts Washington Bicentennial contest

On Friday Feb 19 the Birch Creek P T A met at the school with Mrs W E Roberts presiding. Pupils competed in the Washington Bicentennial Declamation contest with Alton Crossley winning group 1 and Letha Crossley taking the first in group 3 to represent the school at the district contest in Dillon on March 19.

The mining district tournament schedule shows Dillon's Beavers defending their zone title with games set from Thursday night through Saturday night. Tractor School Set at State University for Two Day Event

State University in Missoula hosts the fourth annual tractor school February 29 and March 1 under the forestry program. Caterpillar factory instructors from Peoria join local tractor men to demonstrate tractors and equipment valued at 30000 dollars. The event, free of charge, is supported by the school of forestry and Westmont Tractor and Equipment, with two factory instructors and engineers on site.

State Land Board Meeting Postponed In Helena

The State Land Board delays a planned meeting with school officials to discuss cutting state grazing land rentals about 60 percent. Secretary of State W E Harmon, a board member, cites several invitees in Washington for the National Education Association convention. The rentals fund the public school permanent fund.

Bucy Receives Four Year Sentence For Hay Burnings

Onro E Bucy, of West Yellowstone, guilty of complicity in burning hay stacks in Centennial valley in November 1929. Jury recommended four years in state prison. Judge Lyman Bennett to sentence Monday. Bucy allegedly paid Pat Young and Emil Borgeson $200 to commit the arson.
