Water Users Co. Retires Last Bonds in Debt Free Status

Water Users Irrigation Co. reports retirement of six thousand two hundred dollars in bonds seven years early. The Lima Dam company now shows no debt for the first time since its 1906 founding. Total assets stand at about 219 thousand eight hundred seventy four dollars and 76 cents. The Lima dam supplies water to Bedrock and Beaverhead river owners. 1956 saw improved but below capacity water levels with 19 feet in the reservoir. Buildings, including the caretaker’s house, were wired for electricity and renovated during 1955 56.

Elks Lodge Scholarships Announced For Local Students

The Elks National Foundation awards total 30000 dollars with top $1000 scholarships for a boy and girl and campus awards of 50 or two 25s. Applications due March 1 in Butte and Feb 25 at Dillon Ells Lodge. Criteria include scholarship leadership patriotism and need with referrals from mentors. Last year winners were George Parrett Selma Nielsen and Jeanette Jewett.

Body of Cutbank Rancher Found Near Jackson

The body of Ray V. Olson a 43 year old Cut Bank area farmer was recovered late Saturday near the wreckage of his single engine Cessna 180 southeast of Jackson. The plane carried the number 4659B and had been missing since February 1 as Olson flew from Cut Bank toward Long Beach California.

Ag Day Meeting Draws Large turnout at Beaverhead high school

Agricultural Day sponsored by the Beaverhead Soil Conservation District drew many county ranchers and farmers for the third annual event at the high school. W W Hawkins reported on Clark Canyon dam. Montana State College researchers spoke on livestock disease prevention. Art Christiansen presented the district's annual report. Ollie E Fink of Friends of the Land in Zanesville Ohio delivered the principal address. the talk was broadcast and opened with the film The American Cowboy and a noon lunch by the chamber of commerce and FHA students.

Camporee Preparations Under Way in Dillon Area

Last Friday evening the Vigilante Council began preparations for the annual Boy Scout Camporee to be held May 25 and 26 in the Dillon area. Dillon hosts again at the CCC pole treating camp on Willow Creek, site used three years ago for a record turnout of nearly 500 scouts. Committees were formed to manage the event and will report at future meetings.

Beaverhead Mining Association Hosts Free First Aid Training

The Beaverhead Mining Association announces a free First Aid course taught by Mr. Zubal of the Bureau of Mines in Dillon March 4 through 8 at City Hall. Sessions at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. encourage amateurs, miners, police, firemen, homemakers, and students to attend. Registration with Marie Gibbons at the county museum office is advised as materials must be provided. Square Dance Festival by Beaverhead County Farm Bureau set for March 23 at the college gym with entries due by March 9.
