Dillon Boys Basketball Battles Deer Lodge And Butte

Dillon split a week of games beating Deer Lodge at home while falling to Butte High in Butte. Andy Smith led Dillon with seven field goals, Leimert added four, Foster seven free scores, and Williams and Selway anchored defense. Butte defeated Dillon 87 to 17 with Walsh scoring for Butte.

Death Claims Cattle Buyer John Kennedy Official Pioneer

John C. Kennedy prominent Pacific coast cattle buyer and commissionman dies of pleural pneumonia contracted en route from Dillon to Portland. For nearly five decades he worked with Beaverhead county cattlemen, buying hundreds of head and shipping to Portland. His loss shocks Beaverhead friends who valued his honesty and judgment in livestock trades.

Former Big Hole Basin Man Dies in California

John Helming, pioneer Big Hole basin resident and former Fox postmaster, died in Long Beach California where he had moved years ago. Survived by his wife and seven children Mabel George Grover Mrs Hurley Harry Clarence and Horace all of the Big Hole basin. Funeral held in Long Beach with attendees from Beaverhead county.

New Northwest School Building Dedicated Last Wednesday

The handsome training school building was formally dedicated last Wednesday. Hundreds of visitors inspected the structure and classrooms and attended the evening reception. Officials declare it the finest of its kind in the northwest.

Elmer Bateman Passes Away in Los Angeles

Elmer Bateman died in Los Angeles last Thursday after months of illness from tuberculosis. The Dillon resident known as Mike Bateman attended the local high school, was married to Mae Jackson, and had one son. The family moved to California years ago where he worked in the motion picture industry.

Automobiles Collide at Washington and Sebree Streets

An accident Wednesday afternoon at the Washington Sebree intersection left Paul Stahl’s car demolished after a rear end collision with Emery Smith. The impact shoved Stahl’s vehicle 25 feet and damaged Mrs Staudacher’s porch. Smith escaped unharmed. Stahl was shaken. Smith later pled guilty to speeding near a school and paid a $25 fine.

Beaverhead County Commission Proceedings February 1922

The Beaverhead County Commission met February 6 1922 with Chairman J H Shaw and Commissioners Gosman Anderson present. Proceedings include approvals of claims for Argyle Silver Mining Co and Mrs John Brundage, tax and road matters, care for two abandoned Massie children, and funding decisions for county poor relief and road graveling plans. The meeting adjourned to February 7 and continued February 8 with further budget and personnel actions and routine January reports reviewed.

Splendid Musical Recital by Pupils of L A Gregory

Pupils of L A Gregory presented a recital at the training school auditorium. The program featured seventeen piano and violin numbers plus a string quartet. Participants ranged from six to eighteen years old. the quartet will compete for the state prize at Big Timber next month. A third recital is scheduled for the 27th with public invited.

Matron of Wise River Dies in Butte

Mrs. A. F. Cline, pioneer matron of Wise River, died in Butte last Friday. Funeral services were held Saturday at Sherman & Reed parlors with Rev. Greenveld officiating. Burial followed at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Pallbearers included George Dodgson, E. Harvey, Ole Christensen, Ralph Richardson, and John Peterson.

Internal Revenue Man to Visit Dillon for Tax Help

Kenneth Moe deputy internal revenue collector will be in Dillon February 24 26 at the court house to aid Beaverhead county taxpayers in preparing income tax returns. Local resident C W Stallings arrived from Bannack to handle business yesterday.

The State Agricultural college basketball team prepares to host Normal college in the high school gym. A previous electrifying matchup with School of Mines ended 18 to 16, with Normal showing swift, strong play and key contributions from Ryburn Drummey Budge Holmes Telin and Hildreth.

Matinee Musicale at the Normal College Recital

On Sunday February 19 at four o'clock Mrs. Margaret Tello presents a piano recital by primary and intermediate pupils. The program includes duets about a child's movie night and an Indian Cycle inspired by Hiawatha. Free and open to the public with details later for an advance student program on March 14.

The mid winter auction of horses will be held at the Dillon Horse Sales company yards next Saturday afternoon. Many ranchers have fine work horses for sale and buyers from across the country have inquired, with George Ditty reporting strong interest.

The Legion minstrel and vaudeville show runs March 8 and 9 with Terry Browning directing. Seven or eight vaudeville acts accompany the Baxter Tonrey orchestra providing the music for the event.

Dillon Ships New Fire Alarm Siren To City Hall

A double headed fire siren ordered from the American-Za France firm and routed via Beaverhead Motors is en route to Dillon. It will be installed atop the city hall and audible for ten miles, waking residents and summoning volunteer firefighters from across the city.
