Senator James Murray Dies After Long Illness
Senator James Murray, Beaverhead county representative in the 1900 Montana legislature, died Thursday at his Dillon area home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Masonic hall with Rev. H. G. Humphrey officiating. Born August 8 1849 in Ohio, Murray immigrated to Montana in 1875, served as Beaverhead sheriff, and built a large ranch. He married M Adell Bond in 1891 and was survived by his widow and Elza Murray, a brother.

Charles O. Maynard Dies at Lima Ranch
Charles O. Maynard died December 20 at his ranch near Lima from influenza and pneumonia. The funeral was held December 22 at the family home with burial in Lima cemetery. He was 38, born in Evanston Wyoming, married to Frankie St Clair in 1901 at Lima. Survived by his wife, mother Mrs Mary Wadams, brother George Connelly, and sister Mrs Emery Keller, all of Lima.

Dillon Boys Lose to Butte Then Beat Missoula in Hoops
The Dillon basketball team went 1 and 1 last week, losing to Butte 21 to 12 on Friday and then defeating Missoula 22 to 16 on Saturday. McAuliffe scored seven for Butte, Williams led Dillon with six, and J Hatfield sparked Dillon’s offense from center court. Next Friday Missoula returns to Dillon for revenge.

Relief Commission Aids Returned Soldiers in Beaverhead
Leonard Peran of the government employment agency organized a relief commission from Butte to assist returned soldiers and sailors. Twelve men have been placed in jobs, with ranchers and livestock interests donating openings. The Beaverhead Red Cross civilian relief society and club rooms welcome all veterans, with a returned soldier in charge guiding support at the rooms and upon every train for arrivals.

Allen visits Dillon on mining rail line project
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Allen spent several days in Dillon and Wise River country where his mining interests lie. He plans a railroad to the Elkhorn mine area to be finished by July 1, with the first engine to run this week and track laying to finish soon. Ore will go to smelters after road completion and a concentrator is to be built. Allen registered as a Beaverhead County citizen and plans to establish a residence at Wise River as a future home.
