The Montana State Normal College has graduated 2,814 men and women, with 1,149 of Montana's 5,609 teaching positions filled by its graduates. These alumni head schools across every county, with teaching experience ranging from one to thirty-five years and tenure in current posts from one to twenty years.
Beaverhead county is allotted 7749.25 as its share of the common school interest and income fund for 1933. State Treasurer James J. Brett announced the apportionment based on a school census of 1588, with the state total at 162099 pupils and an overall fund of 791023.69, up 84097 from last year. The distribution is to be available to counties earlier than in the past decade, calculated at 4.87 per pupil.
Four members of the Little Symphony from Montana State Normal College will air next Sunday afternoon on KGIR in Butte. The 12:30 to 1:00 p m program, under the mining district American Legion auxiliary, features Marguerite Collins and Ruth Phelps on piano, Ralph Smith tenor, and Willard Albright violin. Bernice Metlen will address on Americanism and National Defense.
Federal hog production control program details will be explained to Beaverhead Jefferson and Madison counties in a series of meetings February 12 to 17. Ray Haight, appointed by Montana extension, will lead the informational effort at Sheridan Waterloo Glen Dillon Cardwell Harrison Ennis Norris Twin Bridges and Whitehall with timing at each venue. Farmers raising hogs may learn benefits of controlled production and program specifics.
Beaverhead post of the American Legion plans its regular meeting tomorrow night at 8 o'clock in the city hall. Committee Chairman D. W. Paddock will present his feasibility report on reviving the annual minstrel show. Adjutant George R. Baker reported over half of the year's membership quota has been attained.
Dillon residents mourn the death of q W Browning father of Terry Browning in Ogden Utah after a long illness. President Roosevelt's nomination of Joseph B Poindexter, former Dillon resident, as governor of Hawaii was confirmed by the Senate with no opposition. The appointment was announced by the president the prior week. Editorials praised Poindexter, and Hawaiians welcomed his selection noting his ties to Honolulu.
Honor EKO Is Selected Honor rolls announced at the junior high school with Frances Pickolick leading the semester list and Joe Taylor the six weeks ranking. The top five are Pickolick, Taylor, Wedum, Fairbanks, Deputy, followed by Dorothy Simpson, June Patrick, Ruth Jackson, Anna Christensen, John Hartwig among others. The second six weeks leaders include Patrick, Jackson, Christensen, Simpson, Call, and Nissen with several others named.
The annual silver tea will be held next Saturday after noon at the St James guild hall. Sponsored by women’s organizations of all city churches, the event runs from 3 to 6 o’clock. The Dillon Choral club will perform selections as entertainment, with proceeds supporting Barrett hospital.
Verne Sankey described by police as America's Public Enemy No 1 is held in Sioux Falls in connection with the Charles Boettcher kidnapping. Local residents recall he may have operated as a rum runner here, linked to Beaverhead County's largest Canadian liquor shipment years ago.
Rebecca Knapp pioneer matron of the Argenta district died last Wednesday at her home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Friday at the family home with Rev. R. C. Shannon of Dillon officiating. Interment followed in Argenta. She was 80 and came to Argenta in 1885. Surviving are five daughters and three sons along with 39 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren, many of whom live in Beaverhead county.
Sixty eight students at the state university in Missoula submitted applications for degrees. Notably Lysle Squires of Dillon seeks the pharmaceutical chemist degree.

Bannack residents prepare for the annual Gold Diggers Ball in Bannack Montana with plans for a date next month not yet fixed. The event marks a historic mining community gathering in the old Montana government seat.
Miss Frances Stahl and Wayne Clark married Monday evening at the Stahl grandparents home in Idaho Falls. Judge Louis Stahl officiated marking his second grandchild wedding during this term. A buffet supper followed before the couple planned a Idaho Falls wedding trip.
The men’s glee clubs performed a Sunday evening concert at Grace Methodist church under Mrs Grace Redburn. The program featured club numbers, vocal solos by Erling Richardson and Sterling Schagel, a violin solo by Willard Albright, and a quartet by Wayne Walters LeRoy Sands Duane Dugan Sterling Schagel.
W G Gilbert of Dillon was elected president of the Montana Woolgrowers Association at the Billings convention closing session last Wednesday. He had served as vice president for several years and succeeds C H Williams of Dear Lodge who did not stand for reelection.
Senator George Melton and Representative Joe Metlen spoke at the Dillon Rotary meeting on Monday night about the recent special legislative session. Metlen outlined bills passed aimed at emergency relief and noted limits on relief legislation due to session rules. Melton argued for new revenue without higher taxes and highlighted session constraints that hindered financial debate. Beaverhead’s representative noted bills that failed despite support. W. B. Hartwig chaired. B. N. Stevenson attended as guest.
The mining and prospecting short course opens in Dillon next Monday and attracts active miners and amateurs. President Louis Schmittroth of the Beaverhead Mining Association announces a large enrollment. Instructors from the School of Mines in Butte will teach in a county high school room three evenings a week. Registration is with Schmittroth or Secretary Pearl I. Smith. Membership in the mining association is not restricted to local residents.
Thirty nine Beaverhead county high school students earned honor roll recognition this week with sixteen achieving a perfect four point rating. Names include Ruth Albright Helga Anderson Bill Bayerd May Ferguson Jean Gilbert Patricia Gilbert Betty Hall Robert Harrison Ruth Irion and others. Martin Jackson was a business visitor to the Wisdom area on Friday.
Beaverhead County reels over the March disappearance of “Old Man Winter,” a local kidnapping mystery that has drawn little concern from residents while nationwide reports surface. The unsettled weather remains a notable contrast to the case.
County residents must apply for vehicle registrations through the county treasurer despite a prior Supreme Court ruling. Attorney General Raymond T. Nagle issued the opinion at the request of A. B. Middleton, motor vehicle registrar, in Deer Lodge.
