Dillon Beavers open 1931 basketball season with three strong opponents in five days. Whitehall travels to Dillon next Tuesday for a test of the Beavers team depth and early form, a game expected to draw a large crowd and reveal the valley matchup's strength.
The Dillon volunteer fire department and Beaverhead post of the American Legion end their dance series tomorrow night. Tonight the New Year’s Eve dance will be hosted by the firemen with novel features, and tomorrow the Legionnaires entertain at the city hall auditorium with the Ter-Tonney orchestra providing music.
Number of business and professional women attended a dinner last Monday at the Andrus hotel. Miss Hooper of the Rotana club of Butte explained aims and noted three active units Butte Helena and Deer Lodge. An organization was formed with Georgia Mathews as chairwoman and a board including Mrs. W. H. Stephan Miss Glenn Vance and others. Mathews plans a later meeting to decide if the group becomes permanent and invites all eligible women to join and participate.
County records show 84 births and 68 deaths in Beaverhead for the year 1930. Births rose by six from 1929 while deaths fell by three. Girls total 62 with 32 boys. May and September show notable monthly totals. One twin birth reported.
Beaverhead county observes Christmas with widespread decorations and community events. In Dillon, services at St James, St Rose, and Lutheran churches drew large crowds, while city hall dances hosted by the firemen and American Legion attracted many attendees with Baxter Tonney orchestra.
The Beaverhead County marriage licenses dropped to 94 in 1930 from 116 the previous year, a decline of 26. Dillon remains popular for Idaho couples with 31 licenses, while one of the parties in ten cases involved a neighboring state. Meanwhile Ted Renfro of Dell and two American champions plan a winter shoot tour in Europe, starting January 19 in England and ending March 19 in Monte Carlo, mostly live bird events.
Mr and Mrs William O Neill were hurt when their car turned over on Christmas night near Glen on a state highway at eight o clock. The curve on Edonia street was described as too sharp in the damaged report.
