Mrs. Loree Dies After Illness in Dillon

Mrs. Loree died at her Dillon home Friday after months of illness. Born in Alta Michigan seventy years ago on January 1 1885 she moved west after marriage and lived here twenty five years. Survived by husband and daughter Anna Loree of Dillon funeral held Monday at the Baptist church with Rev Hurley officiating. pallbearers listed and interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Attempted Fire At Montana Meat Market Packing Plant

An arson attempt damaged the Montana Meat Market packing plant near the city. Fire started under benches in the lard and hay area, but burned out. A $500 reward is offered for information leading to arrest and conviction.

Obituary: Robert Hills Found Dead North Of Windom

The 80 year old Robert Hills was found dead about fifteen miles north of Windom last Thursday. Authorities say heart trouble may have caused his death though another theory suggests exposure. Neighbors found the body after several days. Hug Brundage carried it to Dijjo. The Brundage chapel held yesterday's funeral with no relatives located.

Wise River sale set for Montana mining assets

Beaton and Montana corporation assets including a mine, modern mill, and railroad from Divide to Wise River are to be sold. Special master W B Kyle, appointed by Judge Lyman Bogpett, will post sale notices from Coolidge. Heaters and Muffly named in court papers, New England Trust named trustee, Montana Mining Co plans to resume operations in February.

Montana Auto Fatalities Lead Nationwide Accidents Count

Montana registered 470 accidental deaths in 1928 with 134 in incorporated cities and 336 in rural areas. Auto fatalities totaled 49, 25 in cities and 24 in rural districts, leading all accident categories. The rural toll dominated other vehicular deaths and urban areas saw many streetcar and miscellaneous accidents. Senator Hazelbaker’s grandson injured in hospital Christmas

In Butte on December 26 Senator and Mrs Frank Hazelbaker of Dillon visited their grandson Hazelbaker who fell from a tree breaking his hip. Surgery was performed to join the bone ends and the boy, cheerful, remains in the hospital about six weeks. A Christmas tree was kept in his room to share holiday cheer.

Stockman Loses Case On Note For Stock

The South Side State Bank won a $3,000 judgment against Moses D. Jardine on a note used to pay for Yellowstone Packing stock. Jardine claimed lack of consideration due to stock misrepresentation and absent stock certificates. The Montana Supreme Court affirmed the decision. Judge Joseph R. Jackson of Silver Bow County wrote the opinion. E. W. Smith was in town from Brenner.

Elk Numbers Surge In Deer Lodge Forest Report

Supervisor John Taylor released a Deer Lodge National Forest study based on ranger estimates covering Silver Bow and parts of Powell Madison Deer Lodge Jefferson and Beaverhead counties. Elk rose from 400 to 1870 with 40 killed in 1928 and 80 in 1924. deer climbed to 906 with a protected season last year. beaver fell from 1600 to 1450 due to trapping permits. wolves declined from 26 to 15. coyotes doubled to 1200 plus.
