Scrap treasure found along abandoned Montana railway grade
West L. Powell, a Great Falls scrap broker, uncovers hundreds of tons of cast iron pipes and scrap along a 40 to 50 mile stretch east of Lewistown once part of the Great Northern line. The metal will feed wartime steel mills and iron ball production while sparking new inspections of old grades. Powell had pressed for reforms on freight rates and price ceilings to enable broader scrap shipments for defense needs.
