Elks Plan New Year's Eve Event in Dillon Hall
Dillon lodge No. 1554 BPO Elks plans its annual New Year's Eve party at the LOOF hall on Friday December 31. A committee led by John W Walters Harry Tash Bert Wilbur Bernard Williams and Exalted Ruler William Lloyd will organize the event which is for Ellis and their ladies only. Hayes Baxter's orchestra will provide music and dancing with refreshments served. Dillon Ellis will provide Christmas treats for county farm inmates. A separate note mentions opposition to removing silver dollars from circulation in Montana by many fraternal and civic groups.

O T Vandegrift Named Head Montana Power Branch
Otto T. Vandegrift was named manager of the Montana Power Company branch in Dillon to succeed Edwin R. Buck who resigned. Doran and William Fitzsimmons attended to arrange the change. Vandegrift has led the Dillon office for years and serves as chief of the Dillon volunteer fire department.

Edwin Buck Heads for Army Duty as U S Signal Corps
Edwin R. Buck longtime Montana Power manager in Dillon left Saturday for the Presidio San Francisco to begin training for a position with the U S Signal corps He will later be stationed at Fort Huachuca Arizona He will work as an associate visual education specialist Buck has led civic projects including the Dillon rodeo promotion Members of the Dillon Rodeo association hosted him at a buffalo steak dinner at the Reno in Armstead with over 25 stockholders Present he received a briefcase Sheriff John Troupe was named 1944 rodeo manager Buck attended a reception at the Montana Power office hosted by employees He and Mrs Buck were seen in town from the Big Hole basin yesterday.

William Player age 61 died when a bulkhead of gravel collapsed at Morrison Knudsen Construction pit about a mile north of Lima. Coroner said suffocation caused by the collapse no inquest. Player had been working first shift for the company and had earlier been a ranch hand. Body shipped to Salt Lake City for funeral services.

Jackson Girl Dies in Jackson Home
Eleanor Ethel Lapham age 12 died Saturday at the Jackson home of her parents Mr. and Mrs Claude Lapham after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church with Rev Calvin Logan officiating. Interment followed in Jackson cemetery. She was born December 26 1980 in Jackson and survived by her parents and a brother and sister in law Hiram Lapham of Jackson.
