Elks Plan New Year's Eve Event in Dillon Hall

Dillon lodge No. 1554 BPO Elks plans its annual New Year's Eve party at the LOOF hall on Friday December 31. A committee led by John W Walters Harry Tash Bert Wilbur Bernard Williams and Exalted Ruler William Lloyd will organize the event which is for Ellis and their ladies only. Hayes Baxter's orchestra will provide music and dancing with refreshments served. Dillon Ellis will provide Christmas treats for county farm inmates. A separate note mentions opposition to removing silver dollars from circulation in Montana by many fraternal and civic groups.

Jessie L. Duboc Named Member OLNE.A. Group

Jessie L. Duboc, a teacher at the Normal Poophews creator Dillon, has been named a member of the OLNE.A. group. The announcement was made by Mrs. Edith B sortence in Washington D. C. and notes Duboc's role in the national education initiative.

Yule Dinner Talk at Dillon Rotary Club

The Rev. Calvin Logan of the Presbyterian church gave the Christmas message at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner. He contrasted today’s season with past observances, urged plans for lasting peace, and said it requires men of goodwill. Robert Stanchfield discussed Russian Japanese relations and potential war outcomes. T. W. Sargent received a past president’s pin. Thomas E. Luebben chaired the meeting.

Beaverhead county's contributions to the National War Fund drive total over $1,750 to date. County superintendent of schools Margaret Sweeney announced outside districts contributed $970.25 and Dillon's donations were over $850. County quota is $5,000. Schools of Dillon Close for Holidays

Beaverhead county high school dismisses for Christmas and all city schools close. Normal College and public schools also shut last Friday. all resume Monday January 3. Senior class led the Christmas assembly with a Manhattan tour and Santa Claus visit. Students and teachers donated ten cents to a blood plasma fund. training school program featured Christmas music and an orchestra led by L A Gregory. Ted Hazelbaker served as narrator.

Train Service Seeks Donations for Christmas Packages

The Train Service committee asks for contributions of cigarettes and matchbooks for Christmas morning packages for boys in the service. Donors may leave items at Mrs. Hazelbaker's office. The committee also thanks Girl Scout troop No. 8 for a $3.00 donation.

Otto T. Vandegrift was named manager of the Montana Power Company branch in Dillon to succeed Edwin R. Buck who resigned. Doran and William Fitzsimmons attended to arrange the change. Vandegrift has led the Dillon office for years and serves as chief of the Dillon volunteer fire department.

James Scofield was elected captain of Beaverhead County High School football team at the annual banquet in the public speaking room last Thursday night. Edwin Buck Heads for Army Duty as U S Signal Corps

Edwin R. Buck longtime Montana Power manager in Dillon left Saturday for the Presidio San Francisco to begin training for a position with the U S Signal corps He will later be stationed at Fort Huachuca Arizona He will work as an associate visual education specialist Buck has led civic projects including the Dillon rodeo promotion Members of the Dillon Rodeo association hosted him at a buffalo steak dinner at the Reno in Armstead with over 25 stockholders Present he received a briefcase Sheriff John Troupe was named 1944 rodeo manager Buck attended a reception at the Montana Power office hosted by employees He and Mrs Buck were seen in town from the Big Hole basin yesterday.

Worker killed in gravel pit near Lima

William Player age 61 died when a bulkhead of gravel collapsed at Morrison Knudsen Construction pit about a mile north of Lima. Coroner said suffocation caused by the collapse no inquest. Player had been working first shift for the company and had earlier been a ranch hand. Body shipped to Salt Lake City for funeral services.

Jackson Girl Dies in Jackson Home

Eleanor Ethel Lapham age 12 died Saturday at the Jackson home of her parents Mr. and Mrs Claude Lapham after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church with Rev Calvin Logan officiating. Interment followed in Jackson cemetery. She was born December 26 1980 in Jackson and survived by her parents and a brother and sister in law Hiram Lapham of Jackson.

Plasma Fund Total Reaches 345.16

Dillon's Blood Plasma fund totals 345.16 dollars as announced yesterday by Mrs. Fred Wood, blood plasma chairman. Recent donations include 1 cent from the American Legion Auxiliary, 1 dollar from Miss Grotheer's room pupils, 1 dollar from Miss Walser's room, 15 dollars from the Theta club, and 14 dollars from the Hob-Nob club, with Theta and Hob-Nob gifts noted as the usual Christmas contributions.
