20 Year Sentence Given Brown in Kidnapping Case
Willard Arthur Brown, 25, Montana prisoner escapee, was sentenced to 20 years by U S District Judge Fred M Taylor in Pocatello Idaho after a federal jury found him guilty of kidnapping Mrs Laura Shafford of Galen Montana and holding her hostage during a cross state flight to Idaho. Brown was also found not guilty of assaulting the woman. The verdict followed a three hour and fifteen minute deliberation and came after Brown surrendered days later at a ranch near Lava Hot Springs Idaho. The case invoked the Lindberg federal kidnapping law with potential death if the assault had been proven.
