Miss O Eldora Ragon former art instructor at Montana State Normal college died in Ashville North Carolina on November 12 She taught at the college from 1921 to 1934 and had long battled illness Born 1868 in Good Hope Illinois she studied at Oberlin Pratt Institute and Columbia after teaching in Illinois Michigan Connecticut New Jersey Porto Alegre Brazil Aberlin College and Oregon State Normal before Dillon Her funeral was held in Macomb Illinois with interment there.

Dillon Jailbreakers Back In Custody

In Beaverhead county the first jail escape in years saw Calvin Edstrom 18 and Charles Moquist 36 force jail doors Saturday night. Edstrom was captured near Twin Bridges Sunday after asking a ranch home for food and was identified by radio broadcasts. Moquist was recaptured near Virginia City by Madison county officers and transported to a doctor before return to the jail. The pair, armed, aimed to reach sheep camps and steal horses en route to remote hideouts.

Marco Polo Goes to China dances at Normal College

A large audience enjoyed the dance drama Marco Polo Goes to China at Normal College auditorium last night under Miss Ruth Phelps. The production featured music dance and pantomime with colorful costumes and authentic drum and gong. Beaverhead county high school's Beavers host Deer Lodge Friday night at 8 in the gym. The Beavers, coming off losses to Anaconda, aim to rebound behind promising prospects Chuck Davis and Smoky Thompson as Deputy and Kurshul led scorers for Anaconda and Dillon in weekend contests.

Funeral rites held for J. J. Bla lock in Deer Park

Funeral services for J. J. Bla lock of Deer Park Washington were conducted at Brundage chapel last Thursday afternoon. The Rev J A Meeke of Grace Methodist church led the final rites and interment was in Mountain View cemetery. Beaverhead Young Men Registering for 18th Birthday

Beaverhead county young men who turned 18 between July 1 and August 31 are registering this week at the Dillon selective service office. George Bowring registered first last Friday as the process opened, with registration set to conclude tomorrow for this group. Subsequent groups will register those turning 18 from December 18 to 24 and from November 1 to December 31, with later registrants doing so on their 18th birthday at the local office.

Legionnaires Enlist First New Soldier

Beaverhead post of the American Legion accepted World War II veteran James Jones as a member at a Medlen hotel meeting last Thursday. Jones served in the Philippines, was hospitalized in Manila, and was discharged before Manila fell. The national resolution opens Legion eligibility to all veterans of the present war. An auction sale by the American Legion was also held.

Concert at Beaverhead High School Tonight

The Beaverhead county high school music department will present a concert tonight in the high school auditorium conducted by Fred Honeychurch. The program features Schubert Sullivan Sanders Brockton Herbert works, baton twirlers, flag swingers, a three clarinets piece by Gloss Glass Boka, Uncle Tom's Cabin with Dale Dart narrator, vocal solos by Stanchfield Boka Neal with Miss Jarussi accompaniment, and the band closing with The Star Spangled Banner.

Mrs William Stewart Dies at Dell Ranch Home

Mrs. William Stewart longtime Dell matron died Saturday night at her ranch home after a long illness. The funeral was conducted by Rev J A Meeke at Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery. Born April 1 1872 in Pickens South Carolina she came to Beaverhead county in 1902 and is survived by her husband a daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Pascal Bimat of Dell two brothers J C Price and William A Price of Dell two sisters Mrs Oscar Gravely of Dell and Miss Ida Price of Pickens S C and several nieces and nephews in South Carolina.

Stores to Open Evenings for Christmas Gift Shopping

Dillon stores will stay open until 8 pm Monday Tuesday and Wednesday next week to help shoppers. On Thursday Christmas Eve they close at the usual time.

Local train service idea gains favor in Dillon

Dillon backs a community train service with donations expected for soldiers and sailors. Receptacles for gifts and coins have been placed in city shops. cigarettes candy fruit playing cards and magazines are listed as favored items. Magazines should be recent issues and decks should be in good condition.

Bea verhead county selective service board members led by Thomas W. Jones T H DuBois George Harrison and J C Fuller attended a Helena district meeting last week to discuss new classifications and general policies. The local board was commended by state authorities for its excellent work.

Helena Man Dies In River Plunge After Highway Crash

John Lynch 29 of Helena was trapped inside his car which plunged about 60 feet from Beaverhead canyon highway into the Beaverhead River near Dillon. The wreckage was seen about 1 30 pm and Lynch’s body was found in the car with a foot out of the rear window. The car struck the river while likely unconscious and traveled down the bank after leaving the highway near a rock removal site from earlier construction.

Badger Pass Road Opens As All-Weather Route

Beaverhead county completes a standard grade highway from Dillon to the W S Tash ranch in Grasshopper valley. The five mile Badger pass link from Nine Mile House to the pass is 32 feet wide with Badger pass gravel, a 22 000 yard gravel fill, rock work to smooth curves, and cement culverts made at Dillon yards. County Road Foreman Fred Crouse led construction under the county board of commissioners W B Hartwig Archie Henneberry and J Warren Shaw. The road will be open year round.

Christmas Services Planned by Dillon Churches

Dillon churches prepare programs for Christmas including St. Rose's Parish with confessions on Dec 24 from 10 to 12, 2 to 5 and 7 to 10, Father F X Lechner and Father Clifford attending, with midnight, 9 am and 11 am Masses and benediction, music by the Junior choir. St Rose children’s Christmas party and entertainment are set for Friday Dec 18 at the St Rose guild hall. Continued on page 8.

SHARE THE MEAT PROGRAM DETAILED FOR DILLON HOUSEHOLDS

Dillon householders are being acquainted with provisions of the governments Share the Meat program in a house to house campaign this week. Miss Nona Schrammeck district nutrition chairman directs the effort assisted by Morse Adams W J Bierrum Harvey Sorenson Sam Ditty Frank O Keefe Evans Burrells Dr R D Curry J C Wedum Paul Anderson Paul Lacry and Earl Walker. The campaign stresses voluntary participation to conserve the nations meat supply and explains the weekly shares of two and a half pounds per adult one and a half pounds per week for children 6 to 12 and three quarters of a pound per week for children under 6. Leaders will offer guidance on alternate foods leftovers and conservation methods.

Gilmore and Pittsburg Railroad Moves North

Dillon residents near the Union Pacific station witnessed two locomotives and a passenger car interspersed with freight cars in a UP freight train. The three units once ran on the Gilmore and Pittsburg line from 1910 to about two years ago between Armstead Salmon and Gilmore Idaho. The travel-worn passenger car drew attention as the engines, recently painted, showed few signs of their long service. The equipment was being hauled to a northern point.
