Beaverhead County Commissioners met December 6 1932 at 9 00 am in regular session. Minutes from prior meeting were approved. A bid for county printing was opened and read, with bids on file in the county clerk’s office. The item continued on page 2.
Dillon Rotary club welcomed Boy Scouts at a Monday dinner in the Hanson cafe. George M. Gosman chaired the event with Eagle Scout Fielding Graves as Boy Scout chairman. Scouts gave talks including Wilbur Gilbert on archery and James Kelly on leathercraft projects.
Walter White and J E Henderson were arrested by Pocatello authorities and brought to Dillon by Undersheriff W E Barry. They are held on charges of forging checks totaling about $200 dated Nov 29 and bearing the signature of Willam Pah nish of Pahnish Livestock.
Dillon Lodge No. 16 A F and A M and Mizpah Chapter No. 18 Order of the Eastern Star elected officers for the coming year at recent meetings. Eastern Star named staff including Elizabeth Rife and Jardine Rife with others to be installed later. Masonic lodge elected Elmo Wynn and others with installation by past master Hugh H. Bates. Dillon Chapter No 8 R A M to hold its annual election next Saturday night.
Montana State Normal coach Brick Breeden trims squad to 18 after two weeks of workouts. First and second strings to be chosen from the group as the Bulldogs prep for a three game tour opening January 5 at Havre against Northern Montana School and versus Intermountain Union and Carroll in Helena.
Valentine J. Jacobs, longtime Cen tennial valley resident, died in Santa Monica after pneumonia. He was born in Lima January 14, 1891 and lived mostly in the county's southern part. Surviving the widow a daughter Mildred a sister Mrs Minnite Whitworth and four brothers. Beginning winter quarter 1933 the price of table board at residence halls dropped from twenty to eighteen dollars monthly, aligning with 1912 13 levels.
A Dillon community dinner at the Andrus hotel reported the $500 Boy Scout fund goal raised. Ten teams of two collected donations to sustain three local troops under the Silver Bow area council for the coming year. T. J. Mulaney recuperates from a pneumonia attack after three weeks of illness.
At the autumn commencement of Montana State Normal college three degrees were conferred alongside seven two year diplomas. Five degrees have been awarded since the school became a four year institution last year. Bach elor of education graduates included Oren Sassman Neal Baeschlin Alfred W Taft. Diplomas went to Grayce Burley Florence Burrell Mary Franick Doris Frost Della Osborne Genevieve Squires Evelyn Welte. A Christmas play The Littlest Shepherd by the YWCA was performed.
Beaverhead county thawed after a week of extreme cold as temperatures rose from 33 degrees below zero to near zero. Unofficial readings reached 54 below near Armstead, while Dillon garages filled nightly and coal, plumbing, and livestock relief efforts helped offset the severe weeklong cold.
Howard Budge Gilbert, a well known Dillon youth, disappeared Wednesday after leaving Monida with a companion. Engine trouble forced them to seek shelter at the Bean ranch in Centennial valley. A multi party search followed, with frost bites reported among several searchers. Gilbert was located at the Bean ranch the next day.
Dillon Camp of Modern Woodmen of America plans its annual officer election at the Odd Fellows hall tonight. A class of candidates will be initiated and refreshments will be served.
Seven pledges were initiated by the Gargoyles drama society at a Country Inn dinner. New pledges include Helen Best Dillon Frances Brown Granite Falls Marjorie Gaines Winnett Emy Larson Dillon Arthur Soulsby Bear Creek Cora Welch Browning Libby Mary Louise Taylor Dillon received the Order of the Jeweled Masque. Also present were veteran members, officers, and guests.
Dillon residents will see the Montana Auto Supply display four new Chevrolet models including the 1983 Chevrolet Six on December 17. Fred Woodside and H T Kraahbel toured Great Falls to view the car, praising its features, while J C Fuller issued holiday mailing guidance urging early mailing to ensure Christmas delivery.
The Beaverhead Post earns a National Citation for the third straight year. Officers are also cited for their leadership and service contributions to the community and the American Legion program.
Beaverhead post of the American Legion received a national citation for meritorious community service at its regular meeting last Thursday. Commander Louis Schmittroth and Adjutant George R. Daker were also cited for membership work. The post had provided free skating for local school children last winter as part of its community projects.
Two Oregon Short Line passenger trains altered schedules after H B Baumberger announcement. No 30 southbound now arrives Dillon at 12 20 p m from Butte at 10 a m and reaches Salt Lake City at 11 56 p m. No 31 northbound now arrives Dillon at 6 47 p m and Butte at 9 15 p m with Salt Lake City to Dillon trip cut to 11 hours 47 minutes from 13 hours 23 minutes.
Dillon neighbors of Woodcraft entertained Grand Guardian Minnie Heiner of Portland Ore at three events. An initiation and program at the Odd Fellows hall followed a Mellen hotel banquet and a juvenile demonstration. Mrs Jack Deputy presided as a drill led by Captains Florence Hughes and Della Hartwig. A 80day session followed the meeting with Eva Stahl and Lola Latham contributing dances.
Charles Prine, a noted Big Hole basin rancher in Beaverhead county, died Sunday at the county farm after a long illness. Born 71 years ago in Scio Oregon he came to Beaverhead in 1900 and ran a ranch near the Carroll property before retiring due to health. His parents were early Oregon pioneers who founded Prineville.
