Feeding 80,000 Cattle in Beaverhead County Bodes Prime Beef

A large stock of cattle is being fed in Beaverhead county with about 80,000 head this season. More than half are owned by Big Hole basin cattlemen as contractors for prime beef ready for market by early spring. Quality hay is abundant and beef is expected in prime condition. feeders have moved into feed pens and cattle are rapidly gaining weight.

Papers of Howes estate are found

The Dillon probate files reveal the Howes estate from miner McIntosh Howes who died February 9 1892 at the Toledo mine Sheridan. Administrator R J Moore reported $2 048 47 in claims and $1 000 05 assets with $51 85 balance, later ordered to widow Hallie J Howes as support.

State Board Grants Life Diplomas and Certificates

The Montana state board of education in Helena approved sixteen life diplomas and 146 state certificates along with 42 conditional state certificates, the largest batch ever. City Hall Site Purchase Considered by Council

The city council met last Wednesday approving saloon licenses for Hirschman Farley and the Metlen Hotel company. The finance committee was told to move on the $6,000 water bond at First National Bank once funds permit, with $4,600 in the water fund. Dr. Walker reported health work aided by new laws, and a $200 contingent water fund was set for Water Commissioner Anderegg to pay workers. He also becomes plumbing inspector with authority to enter premises to inspect plumbing to prevent water loss. The sidewalk snow removal ordinance was reviewed and Sassman ordered to enforce it. A resolution favored purchasing the David Robb property at Center and North Montana for 4450, 50 by 125 feet, opposite Will Orr’s livery.

First Machinery Arrives for G. & P. Ry Leadore Shops

The first consignment of machinery was received for the new G. and P. railway shops at Leadore this week. A 40 h.p. boiler and force pump for fire protection is shaping the interior of the large building east of the tracks.

Bimrose Wins Suit Against City Over Wages

Dr. F H Bimrose formerly of Butte won a judgment in Judge Lynch's court to recover $70 for services and $4.50 costs from the city in a wage attach ment case against Archie McTaggart, former city employment agent under the Nevin administration.

Beaverhead Commercial Club Elects Officers at Metlen Hotel

Beaverhead Commercial Club members gathered at the Metlen hotel for an inaugural meeting. Officers were chosen including Frank A. Hazelbaker as president and Dr. F. H. Bimrose as secretary and treasurer. An executive committee and advisory board were named with representatives from multiple communities. A subsequent board meeting is scheduled for January 9, 1912.

County officials plan New Year's Day open house
