Norris Seeks Montana Land Exchange at Washington Meet

Governor Norris of Montana met with Chief Forester Graves and Interior aides in Washington to push a land exchange. Montana would surrender about 450000 acres of surveyed school sections in forest reserves for an equal value block of forest land, with funding sought to appraisal and field work. A December 23 rifle shoot festival for sportsmen is announced with prizes and extra guns for attendees.

Big Rifle Shoot Scheduled in Dillon at Stahl Addition

One of the county’s largest rifle shoots to be held in Dillon at Stahl addition near Louis Stahl home on Monday the 28th. Eph Stoller will direct the event with nine am start until dark. Warm quarters and hot lunch available. Open entry with favorable chances for all. Big rifles at 100 yard range and four inch bull’s eye. Smaller rifles to be adjusted on arrival. No sights barred.

Louis Schaffer Denver dyeing pioneer dies at 77

Louis Schaffer a pioneer in dyeing and cleaning died at his daughter's home in Denver at age 77. Born in Germany he began as a dyer and later retired after years in the garment dyeing field. He lived on a ranch in Elbert county and is survived by Edward Schaffer and three daughters including Mrs. Lena Turner Mrs. May Bennett and Mrs. Lizzie La Croix.

Medicine Lodge Woman Dies in Idaho Falls

Mrs. Fred Carlson of Medicine Lodge County died suddenly in Idaho Falls last week after convulsions. She was 32, survived by her husband rancher Fred Carlson a brother and a 12 day old baby. Funeral services were Sunday at St James Episcopal and burial at Mountain View cemetery.

Monaghan Appointed Fifth District Court Stenographer

Hon W A Clark appoints T J Monaghan as court stenographer for the Fifth judicial district starting January 6. Monaghan has served since 1894 under Judges Showers Parker and Callaway, totaling nearly 19 years with at least four more to come, a record unlikely to be surpassed. Virginia City Times reports the appointment as testament to his fitness.

State Inspector Wm Walsh details county by county mining activity. Sentenced 80 Years For Hold-up in Deer Lodge Prison Plan

A two month district court term led by Judge J B Poindexter saw Wilson plead guilty to two robbery charges. He was sentenced to 20 years at hard labor plus 10 years, totaling 80 years in state prison. Sheriff Gosman and deputies pursued the hold-up near Thompson Avenue, with a gunfight injuring Officer Martin and a robber fatally shot. Wilson recovering. Martin remains hospitalized in Butte.
