State Head Visits St Elmo Commandery No 7

Herbert F. Hosfeld of Somers grand commander of the Knights Templar of Montana paid an official visit to St. Elmo Commandery No. 7 at the Masonic hall. John T. Orr of Dillon deputy grand commander was honored. A banquet preceded the business session, with out of town members in attendance.

Beavers Open Cage Season Against Powell County Rival

Beaverhead county high school begins basketball with a home game Friday night vs Powell county high of Deer Lodge. The Beavers, defending District 8 champions, rely on five lettermen including Dart and Thompson while facing early tests against Anaconda and Butte Central. Dean Nelson leads the new yell squad with Bonnie George and Agnes Marie Smith assisting.

Elks Lodge Holds Memorial Rites For Departed Brothers

Dillon Elks lodge conducted its annual Memorial services at the I.O.O.F. hall. Judge Lyman H. Bennett of Virginia City spoke, urging brothers to emulate departed members' good traits. Exalted Ruler William Lloyd led the ritual. high school quartet performed under Louise Cross.

Leonard Hansen Named President of Danish Masons Chapter No 8

Leonard Hansen was elected president at a Danish Mothership meeting held at the Masons hall. He succeeds Holger Carlson as high priest in Chapter No 8. Otto Christiansen was named vice president with Arthur Bay Minnie Jens Bay as cashier and Nis Nissen among trustees. John P. Larson named inner guard. Harry Nelson, recently back from Africa, plans to stay for two weeks.

Beaverhead Salvage Drives Successful Weekend Campaign

Beaverhead county conducted simultaneous drives for scrap paper and scrap metal over the weekend. The effort, led by Salvage Chairman Dave Hallack and FFA director William Evans, yielded a carload of paper and more than 51,000 pounds of metal for shipment to a St Paul paper mill and an East Helena smelter respectively. Proceeds fund FFA projects and the metal will aid war material manufacture.

Damage Suit Proceeding in District Court

Vic Westergard and Leona Westergard sue Herman Peterson for damages from a car accident. Trial opened last Friday before Judge Lyman H. Bennett with a Dillon south highway collision cited. The Antilles Air Command aired a 30 minute salute spotlighting Montana to boost wartime morale. It highlighted Butte and Anaconda copper mining and Montana’s copper gold silver magnesium output, plus wool wheat and cattle production. Beehive Talk At Dillon Rotary Dinner Explains Bee Culture

R. M. Gregg, Dillon’s bee man, spoke at the Dillon Rotary dinner on bee culture. He traced apiculture from its seventeenth century origins, noted the Italian bee’s dominance in U S beekeeping, and described hive management, queen fertility, and swarm behavior. Beeswax uses and hive dynamics, including worker lifespans, were detailed with practical experience.

Ray Willey Named Beaverhead County Assessor

Ray Willey, a Big Hole basin resident and World War I veteran, is appointed Beaverhead County assessor by the board of commissioners. He previously served as deputy for two months, succeeding Judson P. Best who resigns to become deputy collector of internal revenue in Helena. Best had been appointed after his father O. M. Best’s death and had served for several years.

Rancher of Bloody Dick Section Dies

Charles Lee Robertson aged 75, a rancher in the Bloody Dick section, was found dead early yesterday by two neighbors after his wife reported he did not return from a hunting trip. Officials say heart failure caused his death. The body was located by Jack Brenner and William McFadden after following a four mile snow trail.

Beaverhead county high school's band and orchestra present a concert tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the auditorium with proceeds to the American Red Cross blood plasma drive. Mrs George Bauer Dies Near Wisdom at 64

Mrs. George Bauer, 64, respected Wisdom ranch matron, died at her ranch near Wisdom on Sunday. Born in Portland 64 years ago, she lived in Beaverhead county 28 years, much of it in the Big Hole basin. Survived by husband, a recognized Wisdom rancher, and two Missouri brothers. Funeral services held in Gibbonsville Idaho.

Funeral services for Sgt. Charles R Gordon held in Beaverhead

Funeral services for Sgt. Charles Roscoe Gordon 28 a Beaverhead county youth who died in a Denver hospital were held yesterday at the Brundage chapel with Rev Calvin Logan officiating. Interment was in Mountain View cemetery. Gordon enlisted Jan 19 1941 and served 18 months in the South Pacific rising to sergeant. He was born March 15 1915 in Armstead and spent most of his life in Beaverhead county.

George Aitken Enters Yale Air Cadet Training

George E. Aitken of Glasgow has entered Yale university’s aviation cadet program for 20 weeks of aircraft maintenance engineering training. He will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and may join a combat squadron as an engineering officer after completion. A former star at Montana State Normal college, he is joined in New Haven by his wife Jo Ann Deputy of Dillon.

Eliels Take Lead in Local Bowling League

Eliels captured top position in the Commercial bowling league by winning a playoff against Montana Power, while Trib and Gosman dropped from first place after two losses. Ebels stand 23-10, Task Transfer led weekly team scoring with 2761, Montana Power had the high game at 972, and Watkins of Warner led individuals with 246 for a game and 620 for the series. In the Women’s league Merle’s posted the high series at 2022 and led last week’s scoring.
