Coroner investigated the death of Fred Randolph a Pioneer resident of Argenta Beaverhead county born October 31 1860 Union City Michigan. He was found dead in bed by a friend after being last seen ten days earlier the inquest was deemed unnecessary and funeral plans were pending.
Prisoners in the county jail enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner last Thursday served with young Montana turkey stuffed with oysters and trimmings. At the end of the meal cigars were passed around by Sheriff Mooney.
Ford Motor Company reports rapid growth with one million cars produced in a nine month period. The Dillon fleet delivered six million seven hundred thousand vehicles since 1908, and management plans to exceed seven million by year end. November average output stood at five thousand three hundred per day, with expansions underway to raise capacity to six thousand daily.
The sad news of Perry Bachus death was received in Dillon yesterday from Buffalo Wyoming. He died after a lingering illness from diabetes. The deceased was well known in Dillon where he visited often. He was married eleven years ago to Florence Carter of Dillon and leaves his wife two children a boy and a girl.
Frank Eliel departed Monday afternoon for Helena to attend the state board of education meeting in the capital city, where sessions are scheduled to run for several days.
Mr. Beam a State Interscholastic Athletic Association board member says attendance at the Montana State Teachers Association was down this year with mostly superintendents present. The group backs income and inheritance taxes for schools and proposes county school governance reforms plus stronger compulsory attendance laws. A plan to extend county high school trustees powers is urged. The Athletic Association endorses current football championship methods but may put the system to a referendum next year and favors ending the season by Thanksgiving.
Melvyn Larson a 60 year old county jail boarder was transferred to Warm Springs last Saturday for asylum treatment. The harmless man continues to clean constantly, reportedly sweeping the bastile three times daily and necessitating frequent restocking of soap and Dutch Cleanser.
Ed Miller, recently returned from Butte to answer forgery charges, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail. He has not yet reached majority and is currently serving the term.
The Beaverhead delinquent tax list is expected to be notably smaller next month. East Bench Irrigation district property will be newly included this year, marking a first for that district. The county tax list will be published in the month’s latter part. Mrs. Mary Judge and her two sons traveled to Sheridan last Friday and stayed with the Battle family over the weekend before returning Sunday.
The Dillon high football team finishes its season with a 3 3 2 record after tough losses to Butte High Anaconda and Butte Central and wins over Whitehall Twin Bridges American Legion Idaho Falls Bozeman Frosh. The tally shows overall 189 points for Dillon to 99 for opponents.
The season opener will be at the high school gym next Friday night between the local high school team and the American Legion team. Coach Williams leads the high school squad with last year’s players, while the Legion team features Warner Metlen W D Ross Henry Wyatt Raymond Holmes Bruce Christman Jay McCarthy Tom Drummey and Bob Barrett, strong local and former college players.
Mr and Mrs R H Foster and Miss Maureen Desmond toured to Bozeman last week to visit Rodney Foster and Dillon youths attending the college there.
Finley Cunnard arrived from Long Beach California to Dillon and will remain through the holidays to attend to business interests before returning to California for the rest of the winter.
Sheriff Mooney disposed of two Buick automobiles at a sheriff's sale last Friday morning. A Buick roadster was sold to Jack Nemick for 3270.00. Both cars were confiscated more than two years ago when they were captured loaded with Canadian whiskey.
After a successful football season Coach Wood leaves B C H S for a road construction engineer post in Iowa. Dar rel C. Willams arrives as head of athletics and science with Naval Training Academy credentials and three years as a Navy officer. Basketball practice starts immediately with the first game in two weeks.
Mr and Mrs J P Best and their youngest son traveled from Elkhorn Springs to Dillon at the start of the week to visit relatives for a few days. The Bests say they will spend the winter at Elkhorn Springs and praise the resort as more beautiful in winter than in summer.
Jack Albers and Chas Meine departed for the middle west to locate registered livestock to add to their herds in Beav erhead county. Mrs. C. Albers accompanied them to Kansas and will visit relatives there for several weeks.
Tom Yost spent Thanksgiving day in Deer Lodge with his daughter Mrs. James Sewell. He was accompanied home by his daughter and grandson visiting the Yost home in the city for a few days.
A Billings tourist backed into an ornamental street lamp at the Montana and street corner causing damage. The incident happened Thursday and the light fixture was demolished.
Hartwig theater books a week of attractions led by The Light in the Dark with Hope Hampton, E. K. Lincoln, and Lon Chaney in a crook role. Repeat showings, Above the Law, The Man Under Cover, Anita Stewart in Sowing the Wind, and Strong Heart the wonder dog cap the schedule set after a packed last Saturday.
J M McPherson and Charles Barry were brought to Dillon from the Big Hole basin after arrests for violating Montana prohibition laws. McPherson pleaded guilty, fined 100 dollars, and 30 days in jail with the jail sentence suspended. Barry pleaded not guilty, released on bond of 260 dollars. A warrant for Dewey Kline was issued but he remains at large.
The Dillon friends announce the marriage of Miss Rose Beardslee to Mr. Charles Westfall in Forsyth Montana. Westfall is a prominent local businessman and the couple will reside in Forsyth.
The Dillon Delphian Society will meet on Monday December 11 at the Public Library. Mrs. Eugene Bond will lead a lesson on the Life and Works of Shakespeare. Members should answer roll call with a Shakespeare quotation or an incident from his life.
Editor M. O. Bullerdick of the Sheridan Forum traveled to Dillon last Sunday, accompanied by Messrs. Jones and Murray, for a motor trip reported in local notes.
Edwin Pegram from Butte stayed with his mother Mrs. Alice Pegram and was a guest at The Metlen hotel until Sunday afternoon.
In a regular session the county board awarded all county printing and supplies to C. H. Polk of the Lima Ledger at a bid 20 percent under the statute rate. For county poor care Dr. W. H. Stephan won with 1100 dollars plus 100 for travel, over bids from Dr. Molleur and Dr. Ryburn. The next board meeting is set for January 2.
The Wisdom Women's Club presented Putting One Over on John and Henry last Saturday to praise for author and director Mrs Gee Cottrell and a cast led by Thelma Brant Myrtle Ross Bert Green John Brant Henry Green and others. Proceeds from the Jackson performance next Saturday go to a worthy cause.
Harold Binney, motion picture director of Los Angeles, spent a week in Dillon selling stock in the Montana Motion Picture corp and preparing for filming. A meeting at city hall last Saturday explained the project and financing for the Vigilante picture, with a free dance afterward.
