INTER quarter students will be offered three new courses announced by President E. B. Davis. The courses are penmanship and spelling with no credit but a certificate grade, college algebra worth four credits, and physics totaling eight credits. The physics course is to continue.
Wets push five avenues against prohibition as Congress convenes. A call for anti prohibitionists to meet on Wednesday and plans for two national referenda on repealing the 18th amendment. Legislation seeks wine beer manufacture sale and federal aid to states to tackle interstate crime.
R J A Aasgaard of Minneapolis president of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America was a guest of the Dillon Lutheran church Sunday. He spoke at morning services to a congregation that included most members and delivered an inspiring message assisted by Rev H B Harson the church pastor.
Illons basketball season begins Friday night at the Normal gym with Montana State Normal's Bulldogs and the Daly-Shea independents of Butte as the curtain-raiser. Coach Moe plans several early December games and expects a fast lineup with several lettermen back.
Percy E. Doles of Havre, grand commander of the Knights Templar of Montana, will make his annual visitation to the Dillon command. Siremeeihteine eine and preparations are underway.
Quinn A Blackburn, a member of Commander Byrd's Antarctic expedition, spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club luncheon describing the Antarctic region. He noted vast ice with mountains over 15,000 feet, barren polar wastes, and 135 days of semi darkness. Roy B. Herndon spoke on Beaverhead Mining Association activities and Montana's mining prospects, citing 319 patented claims covering 5,000 acres and ongoing development efforts.
Burl Stevens and George Judge plan to continue the turkey shoot starting Dec. 10 at the old Crystal Laundry building corner of Montana and Sebree streets. Turkeys of the same grade and quality as prizes will be offered. H. E. Andrus succeeds George W. Lovell on Beaverhead county fair board.
Albert Polish 16, Beaverhead county high school senior, named as alternate for Montana’s Annapolis Naval Academy appointment after scoring second highest in statewide exam among 45 applicants. He is son of Mr and Mrs Matt Polish of Reichleranch, living with Mr and Mrs Lorenzo Cashing during high school.
Stockmen from Beaverhead County gathered in the county courthouse for a Saturday meeting. J. B. Shaw presided with Fred Rife as secretary as members adopted a resolution for local brand inspections on livestock shipped out of the county and another urging Congress to consider transferring public lands to the state. The group discussed county stock interests and planned future activities.
Old-time dances including quadrilles and circle two-steps will be featured at a dance at Dart's Hall next Saturday night. Elmer Peterson's four piece orchestra, Dillon's latest purveyors of dance melody, will provide the music with Matt Reis calling the dances. The program will also include popular new tunes. Mr and Mrs Clyde Vance are the parents of a baby boy born in Dillon this morning.
Lieutenant Governor Frank A. Hazelbaker and Big Hole basin again excel at the International Hay and Grain Show in Chicago. Hazelbaker captured blue ribbons in timothy mixed timothy and clover prairie hay and earned a second on red clover, totaling four ribbons larger than any other exhibitor in the hay division. The prize hay came from the Hazelbaker ranch in Beaverhead County Montana, sparking countywide pride. Continued on page 7.
The year’s final Court of Honor drew a large community turnout. A. I. Cashmore presented Melbourne Jackson, troop 14, James Kelly, troop 42, and James McCulley, troop 42, with first class awards. Merit badges were given by J. C. Wedum to Fielding Graves for pathfinding, closes and firet ald to animals.
Beaverhead county commissioners awarded county printing for two years to the Dillon Examiner starting January 1, with no other bids. The December meeting also held county physician contract bids for next month due to an absent member. Board members will change at the next session with W. B. Hartwig replacing A. L. Anderson as chairman.
Union services at the Baptist church featured six Dillon congregations with Rev. H. B. Hanson preaching the sermon. The Barrett hospital Thanksgiving offering exceeded 30 dollars. Ministers from Grace, St. James Episcopal, Presbyterian and Baptist participated, with solos by Mrs. J. C. Jeppson and Ruth Erickson. A large crowd attended the Dillon volunteer fire department Thanksgiving dance at city hall hall with Baxter Tonrey orchestra.
Beaverhead county reports a completed census showing 1 558 residents listed in the school enrollment roll. Local officials say the tally covers all districts and will guide funding and transportation planning for the next school year.
