Property owners in Dillon face fines for not clearing snow from sidewalks after heavy falls. City officials warn enforcement will be strict, with snow removal costs charged to the property owner via taxes if needed.
Montana enacts an egg grading system with four classes U S Specials U S Extr as U S Standards and U S Trades to ensure eggs sold match advertised quality. Retailers must demand candling certificates and include them on invoices. Farmers and dairymen bear responsibility to deliver fresh eggs to obtain top prices.
Montana records show 192 fewer deaths and 369 fewer births for the year to November 1, with 10 month totals of 4 385 deaths and 8 137 births. October reports include 423 deaths and 816 births, with 66 infant deaths and 15 sets of twins.
Lieutenant Governor Hazelbaker acts as Montana chief executive for a week as Governor Erickson travels to Chicago for a western governors conference. Beav erhead county seal sales direct three fourths of proceeds to a school nurse, with 20 percent staying in state and five percent to national headquarters. Montana Tuberculosis Association sponsors the campaign with seals to be sold by students and local businesses.
Dillon lodge No. 1564 of the B P O Elks announces memorial services at Odd Fellows hall next Sunday evening December 6. Exalted Ruler John T. Orr will preside as officers participate in a notable ritual. J B Kelly, Dillon attorney, will be principal speaker with special music planned.
Be vacationing in Dillon for Thanksgiving. Beaverhead residents gathered for home feasts amid snowfall the heaviest in years. The Dillon union services included five churches Methodist Lutheran Baptist Presbyterian and Latter Day Saints with community leaders and local officials in attendance.
Beaverhead post of the American Legion will hold its annual election of officers next Monday evening December 7 with a banquet at the Metlen hotel. Nominations from last Thursday night include Louis Schmittroth as commander C M Casterline as vice commander George M Gosman as finance officer C T Callahan as chaplain Parke T Scott as historian Bob Marchessau as sergeant at arms Paul Temple and Bill Mc Mannis as executive committeemen. Dr R D Curry reported on national headquarters finances.
The United States gross income in 1929 totaled 24.8 billion dollars, a decline of 425 million from 1928. Preliminary 1930 statistics show a further year over year decrease of about 7.07 billion. Internal Revenue figures outline the national income shift with continued coverage on page 6.
Baverhead county appears to meet its Red Cross relief fund goal of 3600 dollars with many firms and salaried workers pledging one sixtieth of their monthly salary for five months. Dillon training school under Supt Charles Henry achieved 100 percent. First payments are due now to Sam Wilkinson, treasurer, with monthly dues due on the first.
Mrs Byron Cunnard former Dillon matron died November 7 in Mt Gilead Ohio at age 76 She came to Dillon in 1886 and lived there many years with her husband and son Survived by son Charles of Detroit Michigan and brother H B Green of Denver
The New Chevrolet hailed as Americas Great Value for 1932 will go on display nationwide next Saturday. Montana Auto Supply, Southwestern Montana distributors, will feature several models in its showrooms. Exact features cannot be announced until Saturday.
Mrs. J. C. Wedum, after several weeks at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, has returned home to Dillon and is convalescing from a major operation.
Miss Edna Christensen who trained at General hospital in Los Angeles California arrived home at the start of the week and will remain here indefinitely.
Beaverhead County Commissioner W. B. Hartwig spoke to the Dillon Rotary Club about rising state and county taxes over the 20 years since 1910. He cited higher state levies from 2 3 4 mills to 5 1 3 mills and doubled county taxes, noting the five year plan to retire registered warrants and the big share of tax dollars going to schools.
City and county health officials have agreed to vaccinate local school children as a precaution amid reported smallpox prevalence in surrounding counties. Exposed or at risk individuals should seek vaccination promptly.
Dillon endured the heaviest snow in years with 16 inches in town and drifts up to 2 3 feet after a 24 hour storm starting Wednesday. Beaverhead valley bore the worst, and cold temperatures followed with lows around 15 below zero. Ranchers welcome the moisture and note more snow this season than last winter.
The Dillon Parent Teachers Association will host a Father and Son meeting at the high school gymnasium Friday night, December 11. Superintendent Charles Henry of the Normal College Training School will speak. The program includes wrestling and boxing exhibitions, music, a Boy Scout stunt, games, and refreshments at the end.
William Campbell 658 was found dead in his Dewey Flat cabin Monday morning by a neighbor. Coroner James B Phillips reported death from natural causes and the body was taken to Butte that afternoon. Earlier, trapper Paul Quesnell was found dead in a cabin in Blacktall canyon southeast of Butte, also due to natural causes.

A large Dillon crowd attended the rink opening on Atlantic Street behind the courthouse. Managers Ray Stanfield and Douglas Bourquin oversaw the event despite heavy snow delays. The heated facility allows skaters to don gear comfortably and enjoy fine ice conditions.
