Dillon Man Charles Hutchinson Dies After Heart Attack

Charles Hutchinson, 62, a longtime Dillon resident and ranch laborer later employed by Carter Livestock, died suddenly last Friday morning at his daughter's home in Dillon from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Baptist church with Rev. R Q Shall officiating. A city airport site under purchase negotiations is being considered by a Rotary committee, with A L Stone offering a nearby land plot about five miles south of Dillon near Blacktail School as the proposed landing area meeting government specifications.

Rock Slide Delays Oregon Short Line Trains After Flood Damages

Storms loosened rocks along a canyon wall near Maiden Rock causing a slide Monday evening. The Oregon Short Line halted all trains at the scene, cutting rail communication with the north for about 22 hours through Monday night and Tuesday. Beaverhead County Assessed Valuation Rises in 1928

Beaverhead County shows a 1928 assessed valuation increase of 194 075 over 1927 bringing total to 22 720 268 while the basis for taxation falls by 36 617 from 7 176 617 to 7 139 954 due to banks shifting from 40 to 7 percent and state board adjustments. The state board assessments total 4 695 529 down from 4 703 899, with the 1927 basis for taxation 1 878 940 and 1928 1 872 906 a decrease of 6 034.

First Northbound Air Mail Arrives Since Great Salt Lake Route

A northbound air mail plane landed at Dillon’s Woodside field after an overnight emergency stop due to a fierce electric storm between Dillon and Butte. Pilot Roy Dismore Contained the emergency, the巨大 plane waited for daylight and departed for Butte Helena and Great Falls. Local residents hosted travelers and, amid festival activity, Dillon Country Club prepared for its annual golf tournament with preliminary rounds completing and match results from Sunday.

The Beaverhead county fair opens with a parade led by A T Peterson assisted by W B Hartwig and Francis Tonney. Local business houses and organizations including the American Legion PTA Rotary and three schools are invited to participate. A daily live stock sale at the new pavilion will follow each morning with Luther S Smith in charge and George W Dart as secretary. R J Scott of Helena will assist and judge poultry entries. premium lists will be mailed to exhibitors next week.

Despondent Dillon herder dies by own hand near river

Isadore Mondetti a sheep herder from Dillon was found unconscious with a bullet wound near Beaverhead canal. A note in his room indicated love disappointment prompted the rash act. Sheriff W C Orr was notified but Mondetti died before aid could reach him.

Schools to Open Next Tuesday in Dillon Area

Beaverhead county high school and Dillon training school announce opening next Tuesday September 4 with several new instructors. Montana State Normal College plans opening September 10. New faculty members include Vivian H Johnson home economics English junior high and Melissa Minger history arithmetic junior high with training in university programs.
