Dillon Rodeo Draws Crowd as 15-Year-Old Hurt

A large crowd attende the Dillon rodeo annual event. Walter Nettik aged 15 was struck by a horse crossing the track and suffered a fractured skull and crushed chest. He remains unconscious at Barrett hospital as doctors monitor his condition.

Mrs Harry Rash Passes in California

Word reached Dillon of the death on August 10 at her San Francisco home of Mrs Harry Rash a well known former resident and old time settler. Born February 17 1870 in Hayesville Iowa she moved to Montana as a girl and later to California where she lived eight years. She leaves her husband two daughters seven sons in San Francisco and another son Harry of Monida. Burial was in San Francisco.

Man Escapes Attempted Hold-Up Near Great Falls

A traveling man from Great Falls reported to Sheriff McCollum that, two miles from town, a rifle-wielding bandit tried to force him from his car. The victim, who declined to identify himself, fled into the weeds after a gun flashed near his head and a wallet was hidden in the rear seat. Continuous details appeared on page 4.

Industrialists Back Better Housing Program Says Montana Trip

Wrestling return match set for Wisdom and boxing card plans

Frank Little Dillon and Paul Watzig Big Hole basin to meet again Sunday night in Wisdom promoter announced. A 20 round amateur boxing card tops Saturday program with Pat Downing facing Moose Rouse and Jack Lanegan to duel Ed Randall. Horses from H. E. Andrus Pat Grogan and A. J. Dyer stables in Dillon have been entered in harness races at the Eastern Idaho District Fair in Blackfoot next week. Harness racing is featured as the event highlight of the fair.

Billy Ritschel Wins Wisdom Broncho Busting at Dillon Rodeo

In a crowded Dillon arena the 4th annual rodeo culminated with Billy Ritschel of Wisdom winning the broncho busting contest. Oral Zumwalt of Wolf Creek took second and Stub Bartelmay third, with Ritschel also taking day money in Saturdays bronc event. The show, managed by Jim Johnson and Monte Burdick, drew large crowds and highlighted calf rope events with Oral Zumwalt posting 22 2 5 seconds and Red Allen 23 3 5 seconds.

Funeral Held Here For Rodney Foster Victim Of Auto Accident

Funeral services for Rodney Foster, who was accidentally killed on August 18 in Los Angeles, were conducted last Thursday afternoon at the Brundage chapel with Rev. W. H. Mitchell of the Episcopal Church officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery.

Local Woman Elected Grand Worthy Matron of Montana Eastern Star

Mrs. Elizabeth Luebben of Dillon was elected grand worthy matron of the Montana Eastern Star at the Missoula grand chapter session. She was installed with other officers and presided Friday night. Mrs. Iva Lea Orr and Mrs. Hazel Tash received committee appointments.

Hap Apgar Leads Local Trap Shoot Record

Hap Apgar, dean of shooters at Dillon Gun Club, broke 50 straight targets in a Wednesday practice at the local traps. L. 8. Smith was runner up with 49x50, Joe Lynch third at 47x50, with Westergaard 46x60, Stone 43x60, Shaffer 22x25 and Branch 22x26 also posting scores.

Excavation Begins on Dillon Federal Building Post Office

Construction of the new federal building in Dillon has started with excavation. Roger B. Mead of Mead & Mount Construction Co of Denver arrived to organize work for Lester Bourquin of Dillon. O Weddenheimer, Denver foreman, and Mrs Weddenheimer will live in Dillon during the project. Completion target is 250 calendar days. the building will house the post office and Beaverhead National Forest headquarters on Idaho and Sebree streets.

Beaverhead county high school principal J E Monroe announced that the school will open next Tuesday September 3. Students may enroll tomorrow and Friday with registrations arranged Monday Labor Day. Freshmen bring eighth grade diploma or final standings. upperclassmen bring prior records.

Peterson and Renfro Back From Shoot in Vandalia

Ted Renfro and Herman Peterson of the Dillon Gun club returned from the Grand American at Vandalia Ohio with solid showings. They placed in several events among top trapshooters and Peterson tied for third in the handicap event. Joe Heistand won the national singles. The Dillon club closes its active season though a few practice shoots will continue.

Frank Little of this city defeated Paul Watzig of Jackson by decision and fall after a 25 minute bout in Dillon Sunday night. The match showcased youth over experience with Little known for Oregon State college days and Watzig once a champion.

Stanley Gordon Buys Dillon Pool Hall to Rename Gordon's Beer Parlor

J. Stanley Gordon, long associated with Glen Lyon's pool hall on Montana Street, completed a deal last week to acquire full interest in the business. It will hereafter be known as Gordon's Beer Parlor. Gordon, a Dillon resident for several months, has made many local friends.

Mrs D Emerick departed on Tuesday for Rochester Minnesota to seek medical consultation at the Mayo Clinic. She will undergo examinations and guidance at the renowned hospital during the visit.
