Meanest thief snatches crippled children's funds at cafe
Dillon police report a glass donation jar for crippled children stolen from Skeet's Cafe. An empty jar was later found under a North Montana street freight dock. Police suspect two suspects and say about 7 to 10 dollars were missing. A transient found the empty container shortly after the theft.

Montana Boys State opens with 330 seniors in Dillon
Over 330 hand picked Montana high school seniors arrived in Dillon for the 10th Boys State sponsored by the Montana Department of the American Legion. Ted Hazelbaker directs the event at Western Montana College of Education as the week of government lessons begins with a Virginia City visit and a campus barbecue hosted by Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce. Rancher Pete Stefanick donated a young buffalo for the barbecue.

Tax Changes This Year Due Mostly To School Levies
Beaverhead county 1956 property taxes rise mainly from school districts. Of 27 districts, 19 increased and eight decreased. District 29 dispensed with its levy. State county and city levy up about 4.03 per thousand. District 10 near Dillon rises to 34.15 from 22.21. District 12 Lima jumps from 18.86 to 42.58 per thousand. County road fund stays at 29.76. Road outside Dillon and Lima remains 10. High school fund levies rise to 9.

Three Beaverhead People Hospitalized After Highway Crash
Three Dillon area residents were hospitalized and a fourth treated after a two vehicle crash on Highway 91 north of Glen noon Friday. Clyde Smith 72 and Hubert Smith suffered hip fractures, Minnie Stewart 50 had a broken pelvis, dislocation, and Mike Gregovich 74 sustained chest injuries. His son 45 was treated for head and leg cuts. All were taken to Community Memorial hospital in Butte with improving yet serious conditions.

Sheridan Youth Killed in Mishap Near Grant
Dennis Glick a 15 year old Sheridan high school athlete died when a pickup towing a rake rolled on a highway near Armstead Salmon three miles west of Grant. Glick was crushed beneath the truck as others escaped. Coroner ruled death instantaneous and Sheridan officials arranged burial.
