Verdall S. Smithers, a Lima area youth born May 16 1921, died in a Japanese prison camp after being listed missing in action since the Philippines surrender May 7 1942. He enlisted October 1940, trained at Hamilton Field California, and served in overseas duty before capture. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Auren Smithers.

Eleven Beaverhead county rural schools lack instructors as the new term opens. Argenta Bristow Dell Jackson Reichle Nicholia Millpoint Monida Bowen West Fox Wisdom primarys will start without teachers. Riverside will close and eight students will ride to Dillon. Despite a 16.37 percent salary increase, the county budget is $115,316 this year, up from $99,088.08.

Former Dillon Resident James Sallee Dies in Seattle
James Sallee sixty died last Wednesday in Seattle. Funeral Friday in Seattle with interment there. Surviving widow Betty and two daughters Elizabeth Backus and Martha Ashley, both formerly of Dillon. Grandchildren Jimmy Backus and Bobby Ashley. Jimmy spent summer with Dillon relatives and returned to Seattle.

Duck Season Regulations for 1945 Published
The Fish and Wildlife Service lists migratory bird hunting rules for 1945. Ducks geese brant and coot season runs September 20 to December 8 with daily hunting from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. Daily bag limits are ten ducks excluding fish ducks and 25 for fish ducks, geese and brant limits set at two each with a combined total of six including four snow or blue geese. Swans are protected with heavy penalties for killing. Beaverhead Madison and Gallatin counties prohibit snow geese hunting and warn against mistaking trumpeter swans for white geese.

A Dillon Elks group and wives attended the annual fish fry sponsored by the Virginia City Elks lodge near Virginia City on Sunday. More than 300 people joined the gathering and numerous local couples were named. Over 500 fish caught in Madison county streams and lakes were served.

The Production and Marketing Administration will not alter Beaverhead county AAA work immediately after taking over the Agricultural Adjustment Agency functions on August 20.
