Mrs. Mary Paxton, 90, a Dillon pioneer matron, died Thursday after weeks of illness. born in Hampsterly England in 1844 she moved to Dillon in 1885 with James Paxton.

Bernard T. Hogan Dies Suddenly at 66
Bernard T. Hogan 66, died suddenly at his North Washington home last Thursday morning from a heart attack. A Massachusetts native, he lived in Montana 40 years and came to Beaverhead county in 1912. He worked on county ranches until retirement. No relatives could be located. Funeral services were held at Brundage chapel with Rev. Father F. X. Lechner officiating, and burial followed at Mountain View cemetery.

Beaverhead County Appoints First County Agent
Bernhard R. Williams, longtime Smith-Hughes supervisor in Beaverhead County High School Agriculture, was appointed Beaverhead’s first county agent. He will lead the emergency cattle and sheep purchasing program and work with extension services to aid ranchers during the drought area designation. Williams, a native of the county and MSU graduate, previously taught agriculture in Grafton, North Dakota.

Former Local Man Drowns in Milwaukee
Latta Russel aged 70, formerly of Dillon and Lima, was found drowned in Lake Michigan at Milwaukee last Saturday morning. A rock weighted coat was found on shore, suggesting suicide. He had left Lima for eastern points about three months earlier and faced financial difficulties. Russell had lived in Beaverhead county and worked at riding classes and clothing sales in Dillon and Lima. He was once registered in Milwaukee as Saptha Russell. Interment reportedly occurred in Milwaukee.

Loans Pay For Moving Stock To New Feed
Farmers in drought areas can obtain loans from the Farm Credit Administration to cover livestock moving costs to new pastures. Transportation allowances cap at 3 per head for farm cattle 1.50 for range cattle 4 for farm work stock 2 for horses 50 cents for sheep 35 cents for goats. If moved stock will return, costs cover both ways and use reduced freight rates. Loans may also cover pasture rent up to 60 cents per head per month.

First Shipments Seed Peas Made During the Week
Four carloads of seed peas were shipped from Dillon during the past week. The shipments were consigned to Detroit. F. B. McGregor of Sheridan, representative of the Ferry-Morse Seed Company at Detroit, said a fair yield of peas was reported by ranchers of the Beaverhead this season despite drought conditions.
