Beav erhead Soldier William Best Dies on the Western Front

Word from Beaverhead County reports William Best, 23, killed in action on the Western Front. Born on Birch Creek, he enlisted last November and served at Camp Lewis before going to France. He was mortally wounded in August and died August 9. He leaves two sisters, including Mrs. Schletcher. his mother had died earlier.

Local World War I Registration Slated for August 24 1918

The draft registration on August 24 1918 covers all US male citizens and residents reaching 21 by that date. Primaries On Tuesday In Beaverhead County

Polls open until seven in the evening for the Be av erhead primary election next Tuesday. Twenty two precincts, over 3 700 on the register, twenty six candidates seeking nominations across national and state tickets, including 29 Democrats and 32 Republicans among the hopefuls. County tickets total forty three candidates, with nineteen Democrats and twenty four Republicans.

Summer session at Normal college ends with high attendance

Bert Liggett Dies Friday After Cafe Shooting

Herbert L. Liggett 46 died Friday after a August 12 Palace cafe shooting in which he killed his wife and shot himself. Funeral services were held Saturday at Brundage parlors with burial in Mountain View cemetery. he moved to Dillon from Blackfoot Idaho eight years ago and worked as a barber and bartender. He is survived by his mother and brother A G Liggett.

Lowden urges road bonds in Illinois at Chicago meeting

Gov. Lowden warned it is now or never for hard roads in Illinois as he urged passage of a $60,000,000 highway bond issue. Speaking in Chicago after a 126 mile trip, he called the plan the best road program in generations and said it will aid returning soldiers after the war.
