Fifth Annual Chautauqua a Big Dillon Success
The fifth annual Chautauqua in Dillon closed with two Apollo Concert Company performances and a well received Junior Chautauqua pageant. Henry Warren Poor’s Closing Days of the War lecture drew praise. Organizers led by Pearl S. Smith and colleagues secured next year’s event, with over a hundred signers on the guarantee and more than five hundred season tickets pledged. A dedicated fund now covers current expenses, with a $75 balance in the treasury.

State prepa res to battle flu
Helena August 13 The state board of health plans to use free bacteria to battle influenza this winter. Nurses will be mobilized under the Red Cross and a campaign of education will begin. Dr W F Cogswell Dr J J Sippy and Dr E D Hitchcock lead the effort detailing a single inoculation method and past experiences with multiple doses.

Doctor Finch Returns From France To Resume Dillon Work
Dr. Grant E. Finch arrived in Dillon from France where he spent months educating for the Y M C A. He will resume duties as supervisor of training at the Normal college at the fall quarter start. He was granted leave last winter to enter the service and was accompanied by Byron E. Toan, former Beaverhead County high school principal.

Will Newness Killed in Auto Accident in Nogales
Joe Newness learned his brother Will Newness died instantly and his wife was seriously hurt in an early morning auto wreck at Nogales Arizona. Newness, a Dillon resident for fourteen years, left Dillon in 1914 for health reasons. He was born in 1881 at Howard Montana and leaves eight brothers two sisters and his wife June McHenry. Funeral plans await arrival of the body at Howard for burial.

The Beaverhead County High School announces its accreditation with the North Central and Northwestern associations and outlines a policy of hiring only teachers with at least two years of experience and proven moral worth.
