Montana Normal College fills faculty vacancies with new instructors
President H H Swain returned from an eastern trip and the executive board named three new faculty members for the Montana State Normal College. Elizabeth J. Clark has been appointed professor of psychology and pedagogy, Theodore Shoudy will instruct manual arts, and Laura M. Kress will teach history and language in Dillon. Clark is an Amherst graduate with extensive postgraduate work and teaching experience. Shoudy is a Brooklyn trained artist and educator who has taught at the New York Military Academy and Kingsley School. Kress is a Wisconsin graduate returning to Dillon after prior service with the college. Shoudy and his bride plan to arrive in Dillon in about three weeks.

College to Open Sept 4th at Montana State Normal
The Montana State Normal College begins its tenth year with opening exercises on Tuesday morning September 4th. Entrance exams enrollment and class assignments fill the day prior. The faculty is strengthened by new members and should deliver improved work. Dormitory rooms are nearly filled and many students may stay with private families to offset expenses. The senior class is expected to be about half again as large as previous years. Campus improvements protect an attractive southern Montana setting as faculty prepare through summer. Sad Death of a Most Estimable Young Woman
Stella Morse Avery of Dillon died after six weeks at Pipestone Springs for kidney disease. Born Sept 28 1878 in Rockford Illinois she moved to Dillon with her family as a child and pursued education at public schools and the State Normal College. Her husband Mr. Avery and her mother Mrs. Maggie Morse mourn her passing after a brief illness.

Two City Meetings Decide Street Ownership and Lighting
The city held a regular council meeting and a special session on Monday to address street ownership on Railroad Avenue and to award a two year electric lighting contract. Debates over 66 versus 100 feet of street frontage, a potential injunction, and bids from Dillon Electric and Graeter Company framed the agenda alongside police and fire reports and various permits and bills.

Freight Rates Reduced Across Montana July Announcement
Oregon Short Line Northern Pacific and Great Northern railways cut freight rates effective August 15. The new tariffs, starting from Missouri river points, promise substantial yearly savings for merchants in Montana led by Butte as a key distribution hub. Carload and class rates drop with substantial reductions in agricultural implements brick and other commodities.

Farling Miner Thomas Williams Dies Suddenly
Thomas Williams a noted miner from Farlin died of heart failure while working at the Indian Queen mine in Hitch Creek. He had long suffered from miners consumption and leaves a large family and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church with interment in Mountain View Cemetery.
