Beaverhead county's annual fair draws near with plans forming for exhibits in the First National warehouse excluding livestock. Merchants and others should secure desired space promptly. Entertainment details will be finalized by next month with aims for stronger features than last year. The Pacific States carnival will appear during the fair week at the fair grounds.
Several Dillon Boy Scouts spend the week at Camp Lowlands near Butte. Among them are Bud Cashmore Roy Forrester Billy Galt Jack Gilbert Melbourne Jackson Tom Luebben Kenneth Barry Tom Everly Harlan Harrigan James McCulley Arthur McFarland Tomey Craig Anderson Bobby Stephan Walter Stephan and Horatio Tragitt. Fielding Graves Dillon Eagle Scout is one of the instructors this summer.
Montana State Normal college dramatics students staged multiple plays at the college auditorium last week. A Saturday afternoon children's theater piece, Beauty and the Beast, delighted children and adults, directed by Miss Mary Emanuel. Cast included Marion Williams, Beryl Johnson, Meriwyn McKinney, Wanda Cochran ng Ayesha, Mary Merk, and Mary Warntek. Also three one act comedies on Friday night under Miss Myrtle Savidge with casts led by Viola Erickson, Merlwyn McKinney, Mary Lee Tower, Hughlun Cole, Leo Musharger, Paul Walker, William Schleder, Wallace Forsgren, Mary Dougherty, Lois Stoecker, and others.
Anaconda youths Frank Metcalf and William Meahan were injured when Metcalf's car plunged from the state highway grade near the DuBois ranch, crashed through a fence, and overturned. The vehicle was badly damaged. another occupant escaped with minor injuries. Metcalf suffered the more serious injuries.
Beaverhead county board awards Dart Hardware a 5361.85 contract to install automatic stoker heating at the poor farm and authorize courthouse upgrades. J J Brown named constable of Armstead. Dillon area dance halls reminded to secure licenses before events. Construction crews work on highway projects from Dillon toward the Idaho line and Red Rock to Hine face delays but expect completion by Sept 1.
Montana State Normal college announces new and returning instructors for the autumn quarter. Elizabeth Shotwell returns as assistant professor primary education. O Eldora Ragon resumes after world travel. Mrs Helen D Luebben to teach French part time. Forrest LeRoy Foor covers social studies during R E Albright's leave. Grace McCoy Redburn leads music. Stella K Glasser in charge of art. Marie Larson to teach typewriting and shorthand. Costs of federal courts rise with year end total near 231000 dollars.

Anquanment announced the retirement of R. KH Foster from the well known Foster & Melton cattle commission firm. He will devote his time to Idaho ranch and hog stock interests while George Melton continues to run the Montana Livestock Commission Company. The firm has been in existence for 18 years.
ALL WILLIAMS was sentenced to five years in state prison by District Judge Henry G. Rodgers after pleading guilty to stealing a car belonging to Walter Hendricks. Williams was arrested in Butte two hours after the theft occurred in front of the Barry Hopkins garage. He was brought back to Dillon by Sheriff W. Orr and found to have a prison record, released last March.
Professor A V Corry of the School of Mines spoke at the Beaverhead Mining Association meeting at the courthouse last Thursday night. He is conducting a geological survey in Bald Mountain and Vipond districts noting rich mineral deposits and potential for mining activity. He is assisted by a senior student and cited the Bureau of Mines work to map state mineral resources.

The book The Teacher's Relationships by President Davis of Montana State Normal College earns high praise in School and Society. William McAndrew, ex-Chicago schools chief, lauds both the work and the author for clear treatment of education's aims and teacher responsibilities. The review notes Davis's honest acknowledgment of education’s failures and calls the book a masterly discussion of the teacher’s duties and qualities.
Rain aided firefighters and forestry officials to extinguish all fires in Beaverhead National Forest. About 500 men had battled blazes on many fronts. most have left, with only a patrol force remaining. Restrictions on camping and smoking eased, though fire danger lingers. entrants must still carry tools and observe permit rules removed Saturday.
A general rain swept across the county ending a prolonged hot spell that lifted the mercury to near record highs in July. Temperatures cooled but remain warm this week while showers bring much needed moisture to parched crops and fields across the region.
