A meeting led by S. E. Whitworth chair of the Beaverhead County Republican committee is set for August 14 at noon in the Andrus hotel dining room. The agenda includes reorganizing the county central committee election of a chairman and secretary and the selection of committees. statewide and congressional officers may also be chosen.
A man found in a southern county highway scene near a barrow pit revived as coroner and deputy sheriff arrived. An habitual offender, known for prior blotter appearances, wandered from the city after being seen with a bottle in hand. No charges were filed, and he left on his southern journey.
The city council plans to adopt the preliminary budget at tonight’s meeting at city hall. Taxpayers will have a chance to object to the budget before final action. The levy is set at 31 mills, up from 27, with 2.4 mills to general fund, 5 to street and alley, 3 to cemetery, and the library fund unchanged.
A Grand district predator expert reports coyotes in Beaverhead county are being exterminated with 1080 poison bait. He warns dogs may roll in treated spots and ingest deadly doses, noting heart paralysis can follow within minutes to hours.
Patrolman Robert Wright and H. Morris and Richard anl pleaded guilty Monday in the se court to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and were fined. Judge Louis imposed a $75 fine and a $100 penalty in another petty larceny case. The jail term was suspended for two counts. The Fitzsimmons theft was also noted in court proceedings.
Plans for the second annual Boys' State at Montana State Normal College feature two motor caravans to Bannack and Butte, an outdoor barbecue, and a Governor's ball at the gymnasium. Harry Jensen weighed six pounds three ounces rainbow also from the Beaverhead. Sunday won the Sport Shop weekly contest and entered his catch in Winn's August contest.
Sanford Shepherd 72 longtime operator of the Jackson general store and post office died at Barrett hospital after three weeks as a patient He carried a prominent role in Wise River and Jackson communities and retired in 1929 to start a store and serve as postmaster He leaves a wife two sons a daughter in law and several siblings with services held at Brundage chapel and interment at Mountain View cemetery.
Teophil Keffeler about 70 collapsed from a heart attack Friday at the Dave Strodtman ranch near Jackson after returning from the field. Coroner said no inquest. body sent to Miles City for burial with a son accompanying. Survived by a widow in Miles City and another son in Missoula. He had recently been in Beaverhead County a short time.
Robert Cardinale and Ben Davis, sons of Mr and Mrs Sam Cardinale and Mr and Mrs Ben Davis, enlisted in Helena Montana for Navy service and were sent to San Diego for boat training. Both graduated from Beaverhead County High School.

Dr W E Monger led five Dillon golfers in Butte, finishing runner up in his flight, while Paul Puyear LaMoine LaFay Leonard Schulz and Bun Wenger were eliminated en route to the finals.
During August session the board of county commissioners hired Mrs Ruth Massie as county nurse. She will assume duties on Sept 1 and becomes the first nurse in this role since Margaret Holloran resigned to join the United States Navy several years ago.
Lloyd Rock 30 of Howe and Darlene LaVatta 21 of Shel ly were married Tuesday by Judge George E. Baker at the office of Norman Giles district clerk.
Plans for the Dillon rodeo set for Labor Day weekend September 5 and 6 show growing public interest. Fifteen candidates for the 1949 rodeo queen are listed with a $200 prize for the top ticket seller, plus a saddle horse prize and runner up watches. The event features a parade with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s posse from Idaho, a high school band, and drum corps, with proceeds supporting the rodeo committees and stock by R. A. Richter of Bozeman.
Raymond Hoy of the Vigilante Electric co op was shocked at the substation while tracing a broken circuit from a lightning strike. He sustained burns to the shoulder arm and both feet and was hospitalized at Barrett. His condition is reported improved.
George Littlefield pleaded guilty to prowling cars in the business district. Judge Geo Epener sentenced him to 100 days in the county jail on Saturday morning after arrest by police.
Friends report the birth of a daughter on July 22 to Mr and Mrs Ray Conger of pretend Mae. The new arrival weighs three pounds and eight ounces.
Robert L. Davis of this city joins Reginald J. Woodburn of Bozeman among 90 high school students in Washington for the American Legion Boys Forum July 30 to August 5. The youths simulate federal government operations, hear national figures, and elect a boy president. they meet President Truman at the White House on August 5. Davis serves on the senate judiciary committee and Woodburn on the senate labor and public welfare committee in the forum’s mythical government.
The body of Pvt Kenneth R Welborn who was killed in action January 17 1945 on Luzon will arrive home for burial Friday morning. A full military honors funeral will be held at 2 o clock from the Presbyterian church with an American Legion escort. Rites at Mountain View cemetery will follow. The 21 year old Dillon native was a Beaverhead County High School graduate and member of the Future Farmers of America. He enlisted October 22 1943 and is survived by his parents two brothers and a sister.
Monte Little 59 died early Wednesday at Galen where he had been a brief patient. Born Lewistown November 1888 he spent his life in Montana and moved to Beaverhead County in 1910 to work on a local ranch. No relatives found. body at Brundage home awaiting funeral arrangements.
Bertha Graham pleaded guilty to intoxicated driving in Judge Louis Stahl's court and was fined 75 dollars. Eloise Cloward also pleaded guilty to a vagrancy charge and was sentenced to 20 days in jail. Both were brought from Jackson by Deputy Sheriff Dan Pendergast.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Innes once Dillon residents travel from San Francisco to visit at the home of Hazel and Lillian Conger.
The Rev. J Thompson left Tuesday for Great Falls to serve the Presbyterian church during the rector's vacation period.
