Clark Canyon Dam plans outlined by Bureau official
Harold Aldrich, project manager for the Great Falls district, told Rotarians that if approved the Clark Canyon dam and East Bend irrigation project will trigger rerouting of U S 91 and the Union Pacific around the site in July 1957. Construction would start July 1958 and finish by July 1963 at an estimated cost of 18 698 000. The dam will stand about 134 feet high and 2600 feet long with an eight foot high dike at Barretts for the East Beach canal, creating about 144 new farms and boosting Dillon population. About 50 to 60 work families are expected to live in Dillon, with total payroll of six to seven million. Site floods 6000 acres near Armstead.

G. H. Heiser, held on fraudulent check charges with Pauline Fridley, slipped a wire into a heavy padlock and fled the courthouse basement between 11 p.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday. Sheriff MacDonald urged officers to pursue. Heiser, described as 33, six feet, 175 pounds, dark complexion, blond hair, blue eyes, may threaten if armed.

The group portrays members of Montana's last Territorial Legislature including Czias Willis and Goodwin T Paul from Beaverhead County. Willis ran a stage station and hotel at Willis near Glen. Hastings notes Glen's hotel was moved from Willis and rebuilt at Glen.

Divide Wisdom Road Contract Awarded for 5.3 Miles
The 5.3 mile Divide to Wisdom road segment will be built this summer and fall by Kieley Construction Company of Butte at a total cost of 230 557 dollars. The project includes grading surfacing and oiling and a 38 foot treated timber pile bridge as part of the loop route from Dillon to Wisdom via Jackson and Divide.

Sagebrush Spray Job on Horse Prairie Finished
Reeder Flying Service of Twin Falls Idaho completed an aerial spray on 1767 acres at Horse Prairie Creek headlands Beaverhead National Forest. 2 4-D with diesel oil was applied at half a gallon per acre to kill sagebrush allowing grasses to recover in three to five years improving watershed forage.

Spruce Budworm Spray Program Reported in Beaverhead Forest
W. E. Fry, Forest Supervisor, announced 251000 acres sprayed to combat spruce budworm in Beaverhead National Forest. Private lands accounted for 23000 acres with owners paying 55 cents per acre, half the 110 per acre control cost. Three airfields supported the operation with multiple aircraft used at Ennis, Grant, and Dillon airports. Flying occurred in early morning hours.
