Death of Huckleberry McKune in a Beaverhead Saloon
The Inter-Mountain reports J H McKune known as Huckleberry McKune died of apoplexy in a Butte saloon after a night of drinking. He weighed about 200 pounds and was carried to the city jail before dying on the way there. Dr Alvord pronounced him dead.

Madison county stockman (. XN. Larabee) visited Dillon last week eager to fund a fall county fair and races. He would donate small purses to attract racing interest, with ranchers and stockmen promising strong support for a successful event. Helena Independent states Dillon’s J B Morse denies any bid for state treasurer, declaring he would not accept the nomination or any other office.

Bond payments to state institutions outlined
State Treasurer Wright received 560,000 from Farson Leach Co Chicago as the third payment on bonds for the State Normal School Dillon and the Agricultural College Bozeman. Of this 510,000 goes to the Normal and 520,000 to Bozeman with a due July 1 final payments to follow totaling 515,000 to Normal and 530,000 to the college.
