Bierrum elected head of Montana Education Association local

Edgar E. Wayne 42 of Dillon died when his truck collided with a Twin Bridges truck near Whitehall on Monday evening. Passenger Ronald Barnett 35 was hospitalized in serious condition while driver James Peer was detained by authorities.

Plans for Normal Short Term Summer School

Summer term opens June 10 with faculty on duty and visiting instructors. Concert at College Showcases Glee Clubs and Orchestra

The Montana State Normal college glee clubs directed by Mrs Grace M Red burn present their annual Spring festival in the college auditorium. The Little Symphony orchestra led by Ralph McFadden and a men s quartet perform alongside vocal solos by Miss Suzanne Gilbert Jack Mahood and Jess Whitney and instrumental duet by Don Wheat and Kenneth Martin. Mary Hocking accompanies the glee clubs. The public is invited to attend this major spring event.

Dillon and Lima Gun clubs both posted 73 to stay undefeated in the 12 team telegraphic event. High winds affected scores statewide as Dillon and Lima prep for a shoot-off next Sunday while several Dillon marksmen aim for a registered meet at Butte.

Bob Hamilton Elected Head Normal Alumni

It was announced at assembly that Robert Hamilton of Bozeman was elected president of the State Normal College Alumni Association. Hamilton, a Bozeman teacher, earned his degree in 1939 and also serves as a district president. The association has five district presidents and branches in several Montana communities and on the Pacific coast.

Nightingale named fine arts instructor at Montana Normal

George Nightingale, now pursuing a Master of Arts at the University of Iowa, has been appointed instructor in fine arts at Montana State Normal College. The highway committee of the Dillon Chamber of Commerce continues work on the Dillon-Twin Bridges and Armstead-Leadore roads, with officials visiting Missoula and Helena to discuss routes with federal and state highway authorities.

Dillon Country club unveils a six month program led by Guy D. Combes and two club chairwomen. The lineup opens with a field day and clean up next Sunday and includes invitational events at Deer Lodge Butte Anaconda and other locales, progressing through July and August with championships and tournaments.

Pioneer of Beaverhead is Claimed

Mrs. Julia A. Selway a Beaverhead County pioneer died last Thursday morning at her Dillon home after a year long illness. Born July 22 1861 in Rock Island Illinois she came to Montana in 1877 with her parents. Survived by five children two sisters a brother thirteen grandchildren and one great grandson the funeral was held at the Methodist church with Rev J A Meeke officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery.

Eleven Track Squads to Vie for District Honors Saturday

The Beaverhead county fair grounds host 11 Southwestern Montana high schools in a district track and field meet on Saturday. Schools include Sheridan, Twin Bridges, Lima, Ennis, Whitehall, Virginia City, Pony, Harrison, Boulder, St Peters Anaconda, and Dillon. Weight events start in the morning, with the afternoon devoted to track and other events. Sheridan is the defending champion and favored to contend again. Dillon hopes to build on spring practice with veteran performers.

Farmers Meeting Of Importance Set For Saturday

Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace will address Beaverhead county farmers at a mass meeting in St. Paul Minnesota next Saturday April 27. The talk will cover pending agricultural legislation and the Farm Credit administration.

Virginia City Elks Visit Dillon Lodge for Meeting and Dance

The Dillon Elks hosted a Virginia City delegation led by Exalted Ruler Leo Musberger for a special meeting and dancing party at the Elks home. A visiting initiation was conducted, the Ellis drum and bugle corps paraded after the session, and refreshments were provided by a committee led by Dell Lloyd.

Federation of Women's Clubs Plays Host at Beaverhead Meet

The Beaverhead County Federation of Women's Clubs will hold a spring meeting at the Riverside Inn near Divide on Saturday April 27 with Wise River Women’s Club as host. Guest of honor is Mrs H S Mussigbrod of Wisdom president of the Montana Federation. Mrs Ted Woodward of Fishtrap state corresponding secretary is expected to attend. The morning program begins at 10 with an opening song address of welcome reports of year’s work and county nurse talks. A luncheon follows and members will inspect the pump station.

Red Cross Lifesaving Expert Plans Dillon Course

Louis P. Bruso a Red Cross life saving expert from St. Louis will visit Dillon on April 29 to help the Beaverhead county chapter run water safety instruction. He will qualify new local instructors who have completed Red Cross swimming and life saving tests and oversee courses to reduce local water accidents. Bruso has served as a field representative in Montana and surrounding states since 1937.

Beaverhead County High School Plans First Annual in 19 Years

Beaverhead county high school will publish its first annual in 19 years during spring. The Beaver weekly staff leads the project with Jo Ann Deputy as editor and Joe Taylor as associate editor. Faculty sponsor Fay Kirkpatrick guides a staff featuring Barbara Holleran, Albert Smith, John Wedum, and Charles Schroeder. The theme Vigilante Days anchors the book with full coverage of classes, activities, athletics, and youth groups. The Examiner job shop prints the entire volume except for Cerda binding.

Legion Auxiliary to Broadcast Tomorrow in Butte

Dillon unit of the American Legion auxiliary will air a 15 minute program for members from KGIR in Butte at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Announced by president Mrs. D W Paddock, the show was prepared by music chairman Mrs Nellie Little Poole and arranged by radio vice-chairman Mrs Fred Meier. It includes a vocal solo To the Auxiliary by Mrs Wilma Wright with piano accompaniment.

Ranch Laborer Dies at Beavertadich Ranch Field

Joseph Brosovich aged 64 collapsed while working in the field at the Val Tadovich ranch near Glen last Thursday afternoon. Death caused by a heart attack per Coroner Raymond Schwartz. no inquest. Austrian born March 19, 1876, longtime Madison County resident, moved to Beaverhead County 30 years ago. Funeral held Monday from Brunda chapel with Father Lechner officiating. interment at Mountain View.
