New Lease on Life Planned for Dillon Country Club
Enthusiasm and $1600 in cash backed a revived plan for the Dillon Country club after a stockholders meeting at city hall. George Gosman led a committee to roll and seed fairways repair greens tees and the clubhouse with the aim of a playable course this season. Old members return and a new crop of younger players expect to join, while Patty Berg’s golf clinic in Butte May 2 generates further interest in the club.

Big Hole Flood Destroys Fences and Drives Family from Home
The Big Hole river ran clear after a tumultuous weekend with ice jams backing water across the Ben Mallon meadow, forcing the Mallons to flee their home near Wise River. Ranches owned by William Ferguson Charles Ralston and Frank Husted suffered fence and topsoil damage as ice blocks piled across fields. Ranchers dynamited jams Sunday afternoon to relieve pressure, with one jam on Mallon land opening at 9 p.m. Ice blocks four feet thick and eight feet square litter the landscape and river islands. Wise River storekeeper Charles Goose called the conditions the worst in years, noting the ice moved suddenly this season and offering ice for icet boxes.

Evangelist Plans Big Hole Project in Beaverhead County

James E. Kelly 70 longtime Dillon attorney died Friday at Barrett hospital after emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix following a period of improvement. Born in Waterloo Iowa in 1878 he practiced law in Boulder and Jefferson County before moving to Dillon in 1928. Rock Slide Halts Highway Traffic Near Barretts Station
A rock slide on Highway 91 about two miles south of Barretts station dumped an estimated 150 tons of rock and earth onto the road around 8 30 pm Sunday. A motorcycle couple had just passed. Norman Downing was approaching. State Patrolman Robert Wright and volunteers cleared a narrow lane for traffic as a highway crew assessed the 30 foot by 10 to 12 foot slide area.

Ranch worker pleads guilty to false impersonation
Jack L. Page pleaded guilty in the justice court to obtaining money by false impersonation. Judge Louis Stahl fined him $100 and he is jailed for defaulting on payment. Sheriff Paul Temple said Page, a ranch worker, claimed to be a friend of a man who left money in a local bar for safekeeping and kept it.

Dillon Woman Named Queen for a Day on TV
Mrs. Eleanor McFadden of Dillon was chosen as one of four candidates for Queen for a Day at a Hollywood station while wintering in California. She learned a local Dillon connection, Hugh Brundage, is on the studio staff and is a distant relative. The McFaddens plan to return home soon. Brundage is the son of the late Everett Brundage and a native of Dillon.

Mrs. H. C. Palmer was elected president of the Beaverhead Museum association at a meeting held Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Collins. Beaverhead's United States Savings bonds quota for 1948 is $187,000 announced by W. W. Hawkins chairman of sales. He says the sum will be oversubscribed as the county has a strong record. In March residents bought $37,937.50 in savings bonds according to the chairman.
