Arizona Leads West in California Cattle Shipments in 1938
The Los Angeles Union Stock Yards report Arizona sent 307 825 cattle to California in 1938, more than any other western state, with November peak shipments of 80 575. Cattle feeding in Arizona and irrigated valleys boosted year round marketing and income for Arizona agriculture. Nevada, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and Idaho followed in order, totaling 753 914 cattle and calves shipped to California that year. Projections suggest 1939 may require higher imports as California’s beef cattle numbers declined.
