The 161st Field Artillery Battalion of the 35th Infantry Division reports firing a 105mm shell toward the Heimat front from France Luxembourg and other locations.

Beav erhead county rural communities total $3184 23 for the Red Cross war fund drive announced Monday by Margaret Sweeney county superintendent of schools and rural campaign chair. The rural area exceeded its $2600 quota with several communities reporting higher 1945 totals led by Wisdom Armstead and Polaris among others.

Miss Ottilie Brauer on leave of absence from the training school has resigned. She began work in 1930 and was noted as a junior high school teacher. Brauer is principal of a Steinauer Nebraska school. An informal party for Normal college students is planned at the president’s home Saturday. Donald Berry of San Fernando California visits during his brother Sgt Gordon Berry’s furlough. Mr and Mrs Jack Grimmett of American Falls Idaho and their three sons visited the Alberts at the end of the week.

Akin Begins Three Year Term For Forgery Attempt
William C. Akin was moved to Deer Lodge state prison to start a three year sentence after pleading guilty to attempted forgery. Judge Lyman H. Bennett sentenced him Monday for trying to cash a $27.50 check bearing a forged John Anderson signature at the Metlen hotel. Sheriff Claude Lay arrested Akin Sunday night.

Five percent of 1185 Beaverhead county residents examined in a tuberculosis survey showed positive reactions. Florence Anderson and Margaret Sweeney reported low rates compared with other counties. In Dillon 400 elementary, 9 positive. high school 185 tested, 3 positive. Adults ages 15 to 25 had 2 reactors among 41 tested. 26 to 40 had 25 reactors among 115. 41 to 60 had 18 reactors among 49. Positive reactors receive X rays at Barrett hospital with final date set for Friday April 20.

War Vet Wounded by Stray Shot near Barrett Hospital
C. L. Pattison of Red Lodge, honorably discharged from the Army last April after two years in the South Pacific, was grazed in the shoulder by a stray bullet Sunday evening while walking east of Barrett hospital. He and nurse Miss Louise Ellison were in a field when four youths, one carrying a rifle, were seen nearby. Sheriff Ramsey investigated and warned youngsters and parents to avoid firing toward any living thing.
